What is "normal"/typical for weight gain between prenatal visits (at the point when they are four weeks apart)?

It should be 4 lbs, a lb a week. I personally don't think it's a huge deal if you're a bit above or below that as long as it's not chronic and baby and mama are growing fine. That being said, I gained too much according to the nurse last month, 7 lbs instead of 4 and I've curbed my sugar. But I'm already up 20+ lbs.

A lot of women gain a lot one month and not much the next. I've never had a mw tell me I had gained too much or too little any given month, and I know I've gained 7-8 lbs. in one month in previous pregnancies. This time will be 7 weeks between visits (due to long vacation) and I'm sure I'll be up at least 8 lbs. from my last visit. You shouldn't stress about it unless you are really gaining too much overall.

Last visit was on Tuesday and I am up 6.5 lbs. She wasn't phased a bit. The 3 visits before that I was up 5 lbs or just under each time... Didn't gain my during the first trimester due to feeling like crap.

I just went yesterday, and I gained....drumroll please...
8 lbs in 4 weeks!!
MW was nothing but happy as I can finally eat - well, most of the time. Heartburn is killing me!!
I'm not sure if there is a "normal" - I guess it depends on where you are now, and what you started at, etc...

My MW just said "well, I guess the baby's having a growth spurt" I could have hugged her right then and there. I'm definitely feeling LARGE and I have 33 lbs.I think "normal" varies but about 30 lbs (through an entire pg) is what is recommended for a woman who starts at a healthy/average weight.
ETA: For the 3rd trimester I think "average" gain is one pound a week...

I truly think it all depends. They'd like to see 5-10 lbs in the first trimester and then about a pound a week from then on.
I'm still only up about 5 lbs and it doesn't concern my OB. Now, not sure what the MW will say once I start working with her, but in the interview she didn't seem concerned.
We'll see on Monday though when the OBs scale doesn't budge yet again. She keeps saying that in the next appt or two I should see a huge jump and I haven't seen it yet. Mind you, I'm eating 2200 cals a day!

Dang Valerie! Um I just downed a brownie that was probably that many calories though
. I figure I have 2 and 1/2 more weeks of good eating to make up for it before I have to hop on the scale again!!!
Yeah, I have been shooting for 30-35 total all along so if I can stick with just a lb a week or so for the next 13 weeks I should be right on target. I have been trying to be "good" with each pregnancy since my DD because I was young and really thought that I was supposed to "eat for two"...
: Needless to say I gained an unhealthy amount with her.

I've gained ten pounds this far, but I still had ten to lose from my first pregnancy still on there. Does that count? (Please say no, please say no...)

I gained a lot (for me) early with this one but the last two weeks I actually lost a pound or so.. I had gained about twenty pounds but I think I am at a total of 18 pound total gain right now.. at 27/8 wks.. we'll see what happens...I'm not really worried about it as long as I am eaiting well (*most* of the time!) I figure it will take care of itself..
