You may have thrush - check out kellymom.com for more info on symptoms and how to treat.

Do NOT rely on you LO's symptoms to determine if you have thrush. Your DD may be asymptomatic. I suffered with thrush for FOUR MONTHS and during that time my DS had 2 yeast rashes of short duration (less than a day) and never any white spots in his mouth. I, however, had painful burning itchy nipples and deep breast pain. It hit at the end of DS's 2nd week of life ans started on just one side, so I chalked the nipple pain up to normal adjustment and spent lots of time "correcting" his latch, which was fine.

That said...going topless helps with ANY sort of nipple pain, IMO. And rubbing your nipple with an ice cube for ~30 seconds right before latch-on will also help with the pain. You can check her latch by watching the video's at Jack Newman's website
