I'm in Canada, so I won't have all the same stores as you... The only kind I've found so far that is relatively cheap is this http://eflyerontario.superstore.ca/c...T%20POP.p1.jpg It's Media brand shown here, but I've seen similar ones by Hilroy. They're 72 pages and a bit smaller than the standard 8.5x11" paper -- 7x9, I believe. They have notebooks that are completely unlined, top half unlined/bottom half lined, completely lined, or the ones that are lined with double spacing, and a broken line in between (I'm not sure what that's called, it's usually used for beginning printers). I haven't seen them cheaper than 92 cents this year yet, but I think I've picked them up for as little as 3/$1 in past years.

I've seen them at department stores, the only one here that you would also have there would be WalMart.

Thanks for the sharpening suggestions -- maybe sharpening them by knife would be better.

sometimes I buy sharpeners from the beauty section. I find them for about $1. These work well, especially the ones designed for the wider pencils.
