HOLY FREE TIME, BATMAN!!!!!!
I finally made it over to the breastfeeding clinic this morning. J is still getting about the same amount as last week (1/2 oz per feeding) but he's only taking 15-19 oz of formula throughout the day, so he's definetly getting enough. He gained almost an entire pound in 10 days, which greatly eases my mind about his weight gain and overall wellbeing. AND, they gave me a Starter SNS that we've been using today. OMG. It only took 30 minutes for him to eat, as opposed to the 60-70 minutes it takes if we nurse and then bottle supp. I handed him off to hubby, and just had a rare minute to pump/express to help keep my supply up. Woooooooooot!
I'm keeping an informal feeding log, and he refuses the bottle/supp in the mornings, so I know he's getting a lot from me at that time. Taking fenugreek, thistle and alfalfa, and eating oatmeal every day. I have no idea how long this bf'ing relationship will last, but I do know he still prefers ME ME ME over Dr. Brown's
and even just 4 oz of Mama Milk every day is a HUGE score for us.
I even nip'ed at the toddler gym time yesterday, and had all sorts of moms asking me things like "why are you squeezing your boobs like that?" and "I didn't think YOU could bf.........", this is turning into a totally positive experience for both J and I right now, which I never expected and has really given me a MUCH NEEDED post partum boost. I'm nervous about nip'ing with the supplementer, although I am about to head off to order a Lactaid, that should be easier than the SNS (which looks like some sort of strange medical torture device strapped to my breast).
Thanks for all your encouragements in the "nursing to sleep" thread, they were really helpful and appropriate.
