Pprom ?

Talk to me about PPROM.
A friend of mine had her water break at 33w0d. She was under the care of midwives (who are starting to sound more like medwives) but they refuse even to talk to her, since she's risked out. Now she's under the care of drs she didn't choose.
She's on bedrest, is going in for NST each day, and is taking her temperature 4 times a day. No vaginal exams.
She is 34 w tomorrow and the drs are really pushing for an induction. The fear is, of course, infection.
She doesn't feel like her body is ready to give birth (nor is the baby ready to be born). She is being well supported by her husband, but the remainder of her family seems to think she is making these decisions because of a selfish desire for a natural birth, and not because she truly believes it's best for the baby.
Has anyone BTDT? (I am aware of Sanguine Speeds experience). Any research/thoughts? My own midwife said that the risk of infection is actually rather low, as long as they aren't doing cervical checks, and that she could go for a few weeks and be fine as long as she's monitoring her temperature.

Sometimes leaks re-seal. If the ROM was a little leak, not Niagra Falls, it is likely that could happen. Even if it was a true, full ROM, she's still in good shape if there is no sign of infection.

Speaking as the mom of a 34 weeker, tell her to keep that baby inside as long as she can. Every extra day inside is better for both of them, and will minimize the NICU time (which was agony and trauma for both of us).

I had PPROM and my docs said that 34 weeks is generally when they deliver PPROM patients. At that point, the thought is that the risk of cord problems (not so much prolapse as compression issues) outweighs the risk of prematurity.

I didn't make it that far, so I never had to deal with that issue. I would have let myself been delivered then, but my water would have been broken for 14 weeks at that point. I'd be less inclined to let them induce if my water had only been broken for a week, I think.
