Newbie Questions

Even tho' I've been on MDC for almost a year, I just started lurking in Arts & Crafts this week. What a talented bunch of mamas we have here! Wow.

My DD is 17 months old. I really want to do mostly handmade, natural, non-plastic toys for her. (Jeez, it's hard- people LOVE their Wal*Mart!) My dad is currently building her playstands, but there is some other stuff I want to do myself.
I am planning on building her a toy tree house, and I want to make the dolls for it. I'd like to have one of each- a fairy, a witch, a acorn-hatted little gnome, and a wizard. (I figured I'd just buy the accessories.) While I am very artistic in 2-D, and comfortable with power tools (builder's daughter), I don't know how to knit or crochet, and my sewing skills are... just barely adequate. I have gotten books on knitting/crocheting, but they just don't work for me- I need someone to show me how to do it. So, should I even attempt to make four 3" tall dolls? Is this remotely realistic? Are there any easy patterns or kits out there that would work for a novice? Or should I just solicit the services of on of the many talented mamas here? I have not been able to find what I want on any of the Google searches I've done, so if anyone has a resource where I could buy these for less than $20 per doll, that would be great, too.

TIA!

Leta,

I haven't tried them yet, but I see many of the MDC mamas working on these Wee Folk dolls:

They don't seem to require any sort of advanced sewing skills.

Hmm... are these the only instructions? Or are there kits available?
The dolls themselves are gorgeous, very much what I had in mind.

Oh, this will be perfect. Thank you Kari. When I showed DH, he was like, "Oh look at the cute little acorn heads."
