Newbie from Montreal

Hello!
Since I'm newly TTC I have been surfing the web to find some good pregnancy/parenting info, and I am so glad that I found MDC! A place where I can ask about homebirths and cloth diapers and be considered normal. How wonderful!
I'm in my 30s, in Montreal, and hopefully will be breastfeeding a little one in 2008. I look forward to becoming a part of this community.

Thanks for the great welcome, and nice to meet all you Montrealers! This is sort of premature (still TTC!), but do any of you know where I would ask about experiences with midwives in Montreal?

A great resource for natural birth in Montreal is Alternative Naissance:

Alternative Naissance
An excellent resource, Alternative Naissance is a community organization that offers complete information about the diverse support services offered in Montreal for pregnancy and childbirth. Call them for free referrals, recommendations and more information about the prenatal and postnatal support community in Montreal.

I, unfortunately, have not been able to get a midwife with either of my pg. You have to call REALLY early on in your pg to get one - otherwise you end up on a long waiting list. To get a midwife:

Birthing Center - Maison de Naissance
If you would like to prepare for a natural childbirth with the guidance of a midwife, these centers are an excellent choice. Fees covered under Quebec Medicare (RAMQ). Space is very limited so call as early as possible to secure a space.

6560 Cote-des-Neiges in Cote-des-Neiges (affiliated with CLSC Cote-des-Neiges)
Info: (514) 736-2323

Same here I would've looooved to have my baby there, but I found the info a bit too late in my pregnancy. I heard somewhere that another birthing center will open in the Plateau next year. But I wouldn't count on it

Welcome to MDC!

I just moved out of Montreal - lived there for 14 months. I had a wonderful homebirth with a set of midwives there. Goodluck with your pregnancy!

Thanks for the info, Pianojazzgirl. I've heard that you have to be fast and lucky to get a midwife at the birthing centre. I wonder if it the same for a homebirth?

taylor - thanks for the welcome! Do you mind if I ask how you arranged midwives for your homebirth? That would be my dream come true... but of course I have to get pregnant first!
