Where does your baby sleep?

Mark only sleeps well if he is being held. If we lay him down, even all swaddeled, he will be awake and crying in less than an hour, usually less then 20 minutes. DH and I are taking turns with him sleeping on our chests- sometimes in bed but mostly in a recliner. I really would like him to sleep in the crib (it is right next to the bed). How does it work in your house? Any ideas to get our little guy to stay asleep?

I'm not gonna give you any advice that tells you how to sleep away from your babe but I will say I'm right there with ya, she sleeps on my chest and I am practically sitting up most of the night. I put her on her tummy next to me on the mattress for short periods of time but she always wakes up soon and nurses and then falls asleep on me again.

no, I don't get much good sleep...but babies aren't supposed to sleep alone, IMO.

All I can tell you is to try and cherish and remember this time, it will be over so fast and you'll long for the days when your babe would sleep on your chest... seriously.

you can get through it

DD slept on my chest for the first few months. She still can't fall asleep without me near. Thomas sleeps in the co-sleeper next to our bed. Every once in a while he'll want to sleep cuddled up next to me, but not very often. Funny how they're so different.

i was curious about this too. right now, grace sleeps in the bed with me and DP sleeps in the living room because he snores and sleeps really heavy...he isn't too fond of this arrangement, but after sleeping in the living room for most of the pregnancy, i think its his turn. that being said, grace and i share the bed, and usually she's next to me swaddled on her back, but i can never get comfortable. she sleeps pretty well, wakes up every two hours or so to nurse and then goes back to sleep. im trying to think of a better position for us. i put her on her belly last night for a while and she scooted right up next to me, but then i worry about her being on her belly and its still not totally comfortable for me either.

Dh is currently sleeping in our room w/dd (18 mos) and ds and I sleep in the guestroom... he sleeps in bed next to me. I swaddle him, though, b/c it helps him sleep longer since his arms aren't flying out and startling him.

Jake sleeps swaddled on his back, snuggled next to me.

I think somehow I got an Easy Baby(tm). For three nights in a row now, he has gone down around 10 pm and slept 4 hours before waking up to nurse and then going directly back asleep for a couple more hours before waking up to nurse again. And then again right back asleep.

My god, I feel GREAT in the sleep department.

We've got a king size bed (thankfully) and right now It's dh, then ds1 then me then Leland. He sleeps well without swaddling- just by chance, his brother at this age HAD to be swaddled to sleep. L sleeps on his side for the most part. I seem to have lucked out in the sleep dept. too.

in arms. at night at bedtime, in the crook of my arm. during the day, in my or DHs arms

Kyllian sleeps mostly in bed in the crook of my arm, or in the Amby. Sometimes he sleeps in his co-sleeper. Mostly though he wants to be held...

In bed with me, swaddled up or just next to me. DUring the day, he sleeps either on my in some fashion or in the bouncy seat. We'll start moving him towards his playpen/bassinet in the next few weeks, mostly for daytime sleep, and then start transitioning him for night when he's about 2 months old.

Little ones this age need to be held. So don't sweat it too much!

At night he sleeps in the bed w/ dh and I curled right up beside me either on his back with his head against my chest or on his side curled up alongside me. I use the side-laying position at night to nurse, so he and I usually get some good sleeping in. He will nurse himself to sleep usually around 10:30pm and then sleep until around 130 or 2 nurse on the other side. Then around 530 he will wake up to nurse again fall back asleep and not wake up good until 3 hours later for some serious eating. During the day, he will fall asleep for his afternoon nap on my chest and now I can move him to his swing and he will stay asleep in it for a couple of hours as long as it is moving. Then he's ready to eat and takes a short nap in the evening on one of our chests. He's napped in the cosleeper twice for an hour or so. The first few weeks though he HAD to be held. And he really doesn't want or need to be swaddled anymore.

Ben sleeps next to me. I'm in between him and dh because dh (after four kids) still thinks he'll roll on him.

The first week Lilah slept right next to/on me at night and during naps, since I was still just laying around all day, and plus all I wanted to do was hold her anyways! Now during the day she naps on our bed, sometimes swaddled, if the ac is on in our room. At night she sleeps in her carseat right next to our bed. I tried having her sleep in her bassinet but she squirms too much and wakes herself up, even when swaddled.

For the past 3 nights in a row, I've nursed Jasper to sleep in our bed in the side lying position and he's slept from 9pm until 2:30am!!!! He then wakes every 2 hours or so to nurse. He doesn't need to be swaddled and he loves to sleep with his head on my belly with his legs between my legs. Ds1 on the other hand woke up at 4:30am this morning and refused to go back to sleep...

Oh I have this going on now. Brady was sleeping ok in his bassinet next to us or in bed with us, but now he's getting really noisy, and doesn't seem to sleep unless he's right next to me or I'm holding him. The problem is when he's noisy it keeps dh up (and he has to get up for work), so last night I ended up sleeping on the living room floor with him, since I won't sleep with him on a couch and am afraid to drop him on the recliner.
We have a super firm air bed for the guest room-is that ok to sleep on with a baby? It's firm like a normal firm mattress. I might have to move in there with him if it's ok. Otherwise I guess I could pull the futon mattress to the floor (too tired to do last night).

This is so true. This is #3 for me and he has slept on me/next to me every night thus far. The other two grew out of this stage so fast and I really want to cherish every moment.

ds sleeps either next to me in bed(err, the couch) or in the pack and play right next to us, swaddled. during the day it's the pnp, or in the mei tai/sling, depending on what's going on. he is a much better sleeper than his big bro. thankfully--as i was up with ds1 about 3 times last night as well!

i read somewhere that when babies are in car seats for too long, they have low oxygen levels, or something (some blame it for their baby dying)... look into it, as i know nothing about it. (*don't want to scare you, but now that i've heard it, i couldn't not say something.)

I've heard the same thing about carseats...

Rian sleeps on the couch mostly because she doesn't sleep well anywhere else.Sometimes she sleeps fine in the pack n play beside our bed but mostly it's our arms or the couch.
