15 days after provera, no withdrawal bleed*UPDATE*

My nerves are shot now, can someone give me some advice? I will call my dr. tomorrow morning, but I'm looking for an idea of what I should expect them to do. I don't want to be blown off if I shouldn't be, or a big deal made if there isn't one.:

Today is 15 days after my last dose of Provera. I still have no period, and I don't feel like I have much of a chance of starting one. Just feeling screwed up hormonally, not PMSish

On days 9,10, and 11 after the last dose of Provera I had-not really spotting, but was more like clot tissue, or like very thick CM that was the color of old blood. I have had cramps BAD cramps since about 8 days after the last pill, and those cramps peaked a few days ago, and have been getting less severe.

I was afraid of another ectopic, but knew ANY pregnancy was unlikely since my CD 21 progesterone check was not even a whole number, and I never had any signs of O this cycle either. It was my first cycle on Femara, so I was hopeful. I have taken several pregnancy tests, the most recent being yesterday morning, and they are all without a doubt negative.

What should I expect from my dr? What are they going to want to do??? I am getting scared here, that I might have more problems going on than I know about.

I have googled of course. I found mixed answers.... some say that their dr. just gave them another round of Provera, some had to go through EXTENSIVE blood tests to rule out complex hormonal problems. I have also done a search here, but I can't find anyone here with the same problem.

It seems that bottom line, 10 mg of Provera taken for 5 days EQUALS a withdrawal bleed within 14 days after last pill.

Someone please give me a little comfort, and an idea with what to expect from, or insist on with my dr. tomorrow?:

Does no one have any advice? I know I can't be the ONLY one here who has to take Provera to start a cycle??? Am I the only one it's not worked for???

I've taken it plenty of times before but I've never had it not work before. I didn't know that it could possibly not work. I'm sorry, I wish I had a better answer for you. How many days was the cycle previous to taking the Provera?

Each time it has been prescribed for me, my doc has said that if I have not started a period within two weeks after the last pill to call and let the office know...

And you had to ask about my previous cycle! I had two years worth of charting in my ovusoft software... and my laptop hard drive just died! DH works in computers, and even does some data retrieval off of bad drives on the side, but this one was completely dead with no warning. The last time I backed up to a dvd was last summer sometime, so I can only guesstimate my cycles for the last year....

Here goes...
  • Spontaneous period in September of 06
  • 1st Provera round mid December, I had my period 4-5 days after the last pill, and it was a rough one, lasting through new years! It was bad enough that I had to call and ask if it was "normal" or ok- and it stopped the day before the deadline they gave for me to come in for an appointment.
  • Second round of Provera late April, period 5-8 days after last pill
  • May 16th HSG, clear tubes (I had a previous ectopic) OKed to start OI my next cycle. I was impatient, and knew from temping that I was not going to get AF on my own, so..
  • Third round of provera on CD 40sih, AF started 11 days after the last pill.
  • I did femara on CD 5-9, with a progesterone check on CD 21, the numbers came back with me at .08, and I never had O symptoms, so there is next to no chance I ovulated. After about 4 negative tests
  • Fourth round of provera beginning again on CD 32. That leads us to now. It's now CD 52, 16 days after my last provera pill. I took another test on Saturday, just because I did have such severe cramps. It of course, was the latest in the hundreds of BFNs I've gotten since April of 2002.

I have the earliest available appointment with my Dr. for next Tuesday (the 21st). I called the phone nurse this morning so early I actually got her instead of her voice mail. I've found that is the ONLY way that you'll get a timely call back: .

Oh my gosh that stinks. Do you have PCOS or is there some unknown reason as to why you don't ovulate? As for the doctor, I would guess (it's a pretty big guess) they might do a quick u/s if they can to make sure there's no physical reason that you didn't have withdrawl bleeding and then try it again. Wow, that really blows though. I wish I could give you better info.

Yeah, it does stink: Some days more than others.

I have a dx of symptomatic PCOS, meaning that I do not have visible cysts, but I have enough of the symptoms of PCOS to go with that dx.

I am also slightly hypothyroid, and that can contribute to lack of ovulation.

I've been on metformin and synthroid since October though, one would think that I would be getting whatever benefits I should expect from those already...

After my Niece goes home today (I work from home 99% of the time with my office, so I am able to keep my Niece during the day too I think I'm just going to do what I can, and find a quiet spot to meditate and get grounded. I have been able to get myself started that way once or twice, but it's hard for me to maintain that level of concentration.

If only I could meditate myself pregnant!:

I would LOVE to try eastern medicine. I just wish our insurance would kick in a little bit of $ towards the cost.

I work next to an oriental grocery and "pharmacy" though, and I gotta tell ya... some of the things they sell are scary. And no way they are sanitary. No way in hell.

If I do try herbs, the only thing I'm going to be able to think about would be the things I've seen go on in those stores that supply the products!

I recently went through a round of provera had also had no withdrawl bleed. I had light, light spotting one morning. I did this in Feb. and the doctors don't know why I never had a period. I've had all sorts of blood work done, and everything was normal, I just had an MRI to see if there is anything wrong with my hypothalamus, but I wonder sometimes if the doctors really know what they're doing. I hope you get answers soon.

Man Elizabeth... that seems a little much to go through: . But when I was searching on google for other's experiences, what I found was either similar to this, or the doctors just giving another rx for more provera. What is the "right" thing to do??? Because either some doctors are over reacting, or some are ignoring a possible huge physical problem.

My body is trying soooo hard for AF, I keep getting now every day, a LITTLE bit of old blood spotting, or what I think is old blood spotting- it's really thick, and more like sticky CM.

DH and I DTD last night, and this morning there are some weird things going on down there . I felt yucky when I woke up, like I had started my period completely so I jumped up and ran to the bathroom. I found black lumpy discharge, and almost PURPLE stringy....stuff... I don't know another word for it. And there was the usual morning after DTD goo as well.

I'm not a too very adventurous type... this is the first time I have ever wiped black chunks or purple goop from my hooha.

I'm wondering if I should call the phone nurse again this morning. No harm in just asking, right?

Oh my. Hopefully everything's ok and it's just af finally getting a jump start with some old clotted junk. Let us know what the doctor says.

I just spoke with the phone nurse, she said that most likely all the odd "stuff" I'm seeing is just old blood (spotting) mixed with body fluids. She said that the Dr. still wants me to come in unless I see normal red flow, even if it's light, and not my normal, they would consider any amount of red flow a period as long as it enough to use a liner at least once.

She also said that if I start having any abnormal pain, or any odors, itching, etc. to come in so they could do a culture.

I can feel my body trying to release, but if I don't start by Tuesday, I have an apointment to see what the heck is going on....

It sounds like you might be a few steps ahead of me on the road to getting af back. I never thought I would have a time where I wanted nothing more than to get my period. I was talking about everything to one of my managers, who happens to be pregnant, and I got the good old "Relax" speech. I don't think that anyone who isn't going through something like this really knows how unhelpful it is to hear that. I'm going to call my doctor in the morning to see if they have gotten my MRI results, because if I don't call then I'll have to wait until Nov. to find out what's going on. I hope nothing serious is going on with you Ashes, I would be very worried if that had happened to me, but I tend to over react sometimes. I guess that if the nurse didn't sound to worried than everything should be ok. Here's hoping we both get a visit from AF soon.

YAY! yay! YAY!

I woke up this morning with AF in full force!!!!! I'm finally on CD1 again, and I'm hoping that this is the LAST CD1 for at least another 9 months!!!

Everyone IRL calls me crazy, (except DH lol!) but I don't think my body would have been able to get things going without my meditations, feeling that my body was "blocked" and working on flowing energies through that, and releasing any stresses that were connected with holding onto that cycle.

Now I'll be on Femara CD 5-9, and even though my dr. discouraged charting and OPKs last cycle, You better believe I am going to chart this month! I want to know what's going on!

Yay! I am so happy for you. I hope you get that BFP. My doc's office called today with my MRI results. Everything is normal. Nothing wrong with my hypothalamus, nothing wrong with my hormone levels, so the doctors still don't have a clue what's going on with me. But enough about me, it's so great that you have a visit from AF. Good luck in getting your BFP!

Thank you! I'm so happy too! I'm also happy for you, that your MRI results are normal. There were some scary things I was reading about that some women have found as a result.

Maybe there is such a thing as a "fluke"? All your other hormone levels checked out as normal range? Maybe consider running the blood tests again, then go for another round? Or maybe even trying natural progesterone OTC? I've seen threads here for women who are going that route, maybe you could get some more specifics?

Yay! I'm glad you got AF (it's not often we can say that). Good luck with the femara.
