cloudy urine

I've been noticing cloudy urine lately, off and on, sometimes I see it, sometimes I don't. This isn't the post-sexual cloudiness, though that happens and is explainable. It's the at-work-and-that-looks-wierd cloudy urine, that didn't happen to me pre-pregnant. Anyone know anything about it?

There could be a lot of reasons for cloudy urine, but I'd guess a big part of it is increased vaginal secretions that are giving that appearance. It's really impossible to figure out exactly what's clouding the urine without at least a dipstick (which can detect white blood cells, red blood cells, protein, sugar, pH and other things that might be dissolved in the urine) and more likely a microscopic exam. I wouldn't worry about it too much, though, it's pretty common for pregnant women to have cloudy urine.

Not in your DDC, but... I had that through both pregnancies. Both were healthy babies, so I'm assuming it wasn't important. I suspect pp is right w/the increased vaginal secretions thing, but I dunno.

I always figured it might have something to do with taking all those extra vitamins & supplements, too.

Whew, so far it seems to be nothing to worry about. I've only had one appointment, so I haven't heard if there's a protein issue, which was my first worry. But as soon as I saw Jujubie's post I figured, well if she does too, we can't all be protein spillers. It seems cloudy urine is common, and that's a breathe easy thing!

thanks all!

Most certainly all the extra cervical fluid!!! It's normal, don't worry.

It's not uncommon to have cloudy urine during pregnancy, but if it's accompanied by cramps, painful urination (most commonly burning during urination) and/or fever you could have a urinary tract infection (UTI).
