Thanks!
I have not had a mother with an actual broken rib birth yet.

One caution I would give though. I did have a client who her Midwife thought she had broken a rib, because of the location of pain.

Come to find out when she went into labor and we got to the hospital, she did not have a broken rib, the Right Upper abdomen pain was a symptom of HELLP Syndrome. there are other things they can look at to see if this is the cause, ie... protein in urine, decreased platelet count, increased liver enzymes... Her Midwife failed to check any of these things since she was sure it was a broken rib.... So I definitely recommend making sure your care provider knows of this pain as well.

Take Care,
Tia

Thanks! I have an OB appointment on Friday and believe me he'll get to hear all about it.

Yes, ME! Two years ago tomorrow! Happy Birthday to my 2yo!

Anyway, about 2 weeks before labor, I took a very nasty spill on my old, hard, victorian house steps. I totally lost balance and hit my back straight on the step. i really thought I was going to pass out and screamed hysterically for my daughter, really scaring my poor kids. We didn't move me for quite a while until I was certain I could move everything.

I broke at least one rib, maybe two, totally knocked myself out of alignment (and couldn't be adjusted properly), and seriously bruised my pelvis and lower back. If you would look at my birth photos, I am on my hands and knees and my lower back and pelvis are a beautiful blue and black!

Anyway, birth was not nearly as bad as I had prepared myself for. Of course, having a nasty back labor didn't help, but I stayed in my aquadoula which made the difference! Get the aquadoula for this birth!!! And I would periodically move to my tub so they could spray water over my back with my sprayer that helped greatly. I delivered on hands and knees.

Being pregnant with the breaks and bruises was harder than the labor!

good luck!

That is great to hear. Because I'm in so much pain right now I just can't even imagine contractions. I'm birthing in a hospital that does not offer water birth and I don't fit in my tub at home. But my labor doula has a sunken tub at her house and has offered to let me come use it until we go to the hospital.
