Medical travel costs to include both parties?

Well here is a question. I put a claim in for income taxes of my medical expenses and I have received a letter saying all sorts of requirements to prove the expenses. We live in a remote area and all specialists that we went to are 'travel expenses'. The letter states " and if you are claiming expenses for an attendant, include a letter from the doctor stating that the patient was unable to travel without the aid of an attendant." Well how do I get the point across to Canada Revenue Agency, or maybe the Dr. first of all, that all infertility appointments are valid that both parties attend. I have appoinments to the urologist that I attended with dh and he attended various appointments with me such as ultrasounds. The question being what would your 'argument' be? To me this is not negotiable. Infertility is a couple diagnosis.

Marlee I don't know if this helps, but here's how I see it in simple terms:
Its a medical issue involving two people, and it is necessary for both to attend the appointments. Not as an attendant, but as a patient.

If my DH were to go a urologist, for example, I would have to be there to gather info firsthand about what is medically going on, so that I would be able to make informed decisions. If there is an appointment which affects my chance of having a baby, I deserve to be there to listen and ask the dr my own questions.

Marlee I'm in Canada too and my RE considers Dh & I both patients. Mind you he doesn't scan dh's health card every visit, but did take the info at the beginning. Maybe if you are both patients it won't matter.

Thanks ladies, You are both right we are both patients. So I should double the transportation costs by the looks of it. They will love that! I hope our Dr. feels the same way.
