Vax for mamma of a no vax family

So...this is crazy, but in order to keep a job that I ADORE, I have to get a flu shot. No way around it, it's contract work and the position is dependent on this stipulation. I previously told them no, but...Today while I was announcing that I was leaving I froze and changed the subject. I work with seniors and I knew telling them was going to be a huge and hurtful shock. So now what...I'm 100% against the idea of vaccines...but I love my job and I don't want to disappoint these fantastic people who I am so attached to.
Any thoughts?

ugh. that's really, really hard. and they won't accept a religious exemption?

If you do decide to get one, go for the thermisol free one obviously.

The woman who runs the contract doesn't want any kind of excuses for not getting the shot...she said she'd find someone else who would take it and move me to another facility. I guess someone else in this position once said no to the vax due to an allergy to an ingredient, and they threatened to pull the HUGE contract altogether and now the boss won't even talk about options!:

Wow. Sounds like a huge violation of your religious rights.

I turned down a job with LAUSD because they wanted me to go to a surgeon for a physical.

I told them it was against my religious beliefs. They brought out a very large, very old doctor who began to yell at me and told me he did not give a f*ck about my religious beliefs, that LAUSD had contractual agreements with their insurers and what I believed personally about my healthcare did not matter to him.

I went to work in a private school. I could have gone to a crunchier MD, but I did not want to work in a place where they dust off and bring in a "Dr. Frankenstein" out of storage to threaten me.

How is that for separation of church and state?

The fragrant smell of lawsuit

This is a slam dunk case. Does the company have deep pockets?
Here are some ideas:

Talk to an employment attorney..tell him you have been fired for flu shot refusal and you want to know what your remedy is then.......

1. Get the boss to put in writing that you are required to be vaccinated by a certain date or you will be fired.
2. If the boss refuses to do this then they are bluffing and will not fire you for refusal to vaccinate because they understand the legal liability involved.
3. If the boss does put his demands in writing then tell him thank you and that you will in no way consent to be vaccinated.
4. See if he then fires you. If he fires you then
5. File the lawsuit for religious discrimination and for not being an equal opportunity employer.
6. Settle out of court for appropriate damages

In all likelihood the co. will not be so stupid as to fire you over refusing a flu shot. The company will see that keeping you unvaxed will be cheaper than going to court (more likely to settle out of court) but you must make them see this scenario.

PS
Do not under any circumstances tell the boss or anyone else that your religion requires you to worship at the noodles of the flying spaghetti monster.

That is indeed brilliant...although, I am not at risk for being fired from my employer. My employer has a contract with a business who is threatening to pull her contract if her employees will not get the flu shot. She is willing to move me to another business doing the same job, with different people. Basically I don't think she will fire me altogether for this, replace me at this facility yes, decrease my hours yes, but I am part time and the same rights that are afforded to fulltimers are not to me in regards to cutting hours or laying off due to lack of work.
You never know though...if things get sticky I have that brilliant post printed off now and will go through with that.
I basically just love the place I am at and it's hard to want to leave. As I said, I work with seniors and they will be crushed to hear the news of my leaving.

And for the record...yes the company has deep pockets...My boss, not so deep.

Do as I earlier suggested for sure now. These people are begging to be sued and settle out of court with this reckless semi-Gestapo behavior.

What are you going to invest in with your judgment? I suggest 10 ounce silver bars.
