A combination of those things, but because we're on a tight budget and snowballing our debt right now... lack of money is the main contributor.

Granted, I indulge in a $4 latte every couple of weeks and I'm thinking about spending $185 on a fetal doppler but it would be a "useful" purchase.

I also have super curly hair and they rarely get it right. However, when I do take a chance I tend to go to spend about $100. I also try and have my wild baby hairs around my crown straightened but that is like once every 2 years haha I wish I could just go to a mall but that would be so scary! Getting my DH to do it :

I wish I could give myself mani and pedi's but if I tried it looks like a preschooler had some fun with my nails. When I was single it was every 2 weeks at least. Now it seems like 2x a year. I am NOT happy about this though.

As for makeup I have concealer, base, mascara, lipstick/gloss, eyeshadow and blush. Do I use these??? ...not so much but it's there if I need it. It's not a monthly expense though. Maybe the poll should've been "annual"

I rarely buy clothes but when I do, like all other expenses I believe in quality over quantity. I won't buy cheap disposable clothing. I tend to buy basic clothing that fits well and is well made. Shoes never fit me right so I have a hard time and rarely buy any unless it's for a wedding. Unheard of around these parts. No Manolos or Jimmy Choo's here. However, if I do see a pair of shoes and they fit me right...best believe I am going to snap them up! They are 99.9 % of the time under $100 though.

I can't rember the last pair i spent more than 15 on : -- cheap ones at payless or walmart. I don't like them, i don't care, and Church is the only place i go -- so as long as i have ONE nice flat pair for church or the random thing (funeral, wedding) then i am set -- the rest of the time are jsut cheap slip ons.

Butttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttt don't even allow myself to go IN bookstores more than 3 x a year for fear of the bill.

way less then $25, I might spend that much in a 6 month period. I get almost all my clothes either from a second hand store or friends that are cleaning out their closets. Wear make-up maybe 3 times a year. Mostly cut my own hair, last time I had it done was probably '03

My problem with cheap shoes is that I don't like the way my feet feel when I run around in shoes that don't have proper arch support and such. Plus I'm a difficult size (10 1/2 extra-wide). So I usually stick with Birkenstocks (even for dress shoes), which I know fit well and are comfortable.

At least they last a long time -- My newest pair of shoes is 2 years old, and I have some I wear regularly that are at least 6 or 7 years old.

Too much. I'm high-maintenance, but I appear low maintenance - it takes a lot of work to look this "natural." I dress casually, and my make-up is applied in a very natural way - but I wear it every day. I'm a Sephora addict and a total product junkie. I do my own nails but get pedicures every 3 weeks (at a quicky, pretty cheap place, though.) I get my hair cut & highlighted every 5 weeks.

Since I crossed 35 I need help to look decent.:

Right now we have an agreement to not buy non-essentials.

Normally though I'd buy a latte a week ($2-3 depending on where I'd go)
a quick snack if I was starving and out of the house so about $2
my makeup is $35 twice a year
we use the same shampoos and most toiletries

but I'd spend $10-15 a month on yarn and knitting things but the things I knit are often garmets for the kids so the craft is for me but the finished item is for them or a gift for someone else. Its nice to have a craft that produces essential items!

However, now that I work part time at a clothing store and get 40%-55% off I spend $25-40 a month on clothes for me but not every month. I am replacing a lot of old worn out clothes and getting things I can wear to work. Its not exactly frivolous spending.

So I'd estimate that I spend $30 or so on myself each month.

These next few months $0!

Wow, I feel like a spendthrift! I get $100 a month "blow money" and I usually spend every bit of it. I don't feel like it's too much, though, we can afford it and it's actually less than what DH usually spends. We aren't wealthy but we can pay the bills and have a little extra. Anything just for me comes out of my blow money, including clothing, makeup, fabric, Starbucks, dinners out with friends, and fast food stops. I get my hair cut twice a year, but it's $50 each time because I go to a stylist I love. I got a pedi at the beginning of the summer, but I usually do my own. Makeup is whenever I need something new. I wear makeup pretty much daily, also earrings and nice clothing. I get incredibly depressed when I look like crap, so I make myself a priority as much as I can.

I don't know where my $100 goes every month, but it definitely helps my mental health, so it's worth it as long as we can afford it!

I feel like I don't really spend anything on those things, but when I tallied up my expenses for the year and divided by 12, I ended up in the $50-$75 category, so that's what I voted.

My thought process was:

Hair cut/color (3x per year) = $300/year
Clothes = $300/year
Makeup = $50/year

So that came out to $650/year, and that divided by 12 = $54/month.

But I also buy coffee, scrapbooking supplies, go out to lunch with DS, go to movies with friends, etc. So I guess I spend a lot!

I don't wear make-up and haven't for 20 years. I get my hair cut 2 or 3 time a year. I HATE shopping. Dh loves me soooooo much!!!
I buy a few new clothing items maybe once every few years. I don't go to the hairdresser. I don't wear make-up. So $0 per month in that department.
Money that is "mine" I spend on scrapbooking/craft supplies. I skim money off the grocery budget and sometimes get a little extra on holidays. So I'd say $100 per month if "me" is the only criteria.

I don't spend anything on these things, ever. I wait until people give me clothes--which they do more often than I need them to. I don't wear makeup--allergic to it and don't want to anyway. And my SIL cuts my hair for free.

But ya know what? Even if I had to spend money for these things, I'd still spend nothing. B/c we have nothing to spend for anything we don't *NEED*. So I'd just do without the haircut and go without the clothes. No biggie to me personally.

Can't you use a fetoscope? Read somewhere here that a minute of doppler is like 30 of U/S, so to me at least, a bad idea for babe. Not that you asked. :

It isn't there. Never has been, but maybe someday will be.

I could and I might. I'm consulting the mw now to figure out how to prioritize. Just an FYI, but "the" fetoscope that mws drool over is $300.

I voted the same as you. I get my hair done every other month for $150. I'm glad to see someone else on this thread who spends that much for hair. My justification is that I've hated my hair my whole life, and since I've started going to this salon, I have LOVED my hair. It looks so good that it considerably boosts my self esteem.

I don't really buy much because I don't want it. I wear make-up a couple times/month or less. I do shell out $40/month for a gym membership, but I didn't know whether or not to factor that in to the poll.

I really, really love shoes. You should see my mom's shoe *closet* and it's still a habit I can't break. I make myself buy good, long-lasting shoes now and my feet thank me for it. But, I probably buy one new pair of shoes a month, on average, at least.

I just recently lost a lot of weight, so I've had to buy some new clothes (my pants were literally falling off of me), but generally, if I want something, I buy it. I just don't want that much in way of clothes anymore - it's funny.

We definitely have the money and I don't feel bad spending it on myself. I have my hair cut maybe twice a year, if that and oh, the makeup I have left over from college! I don't wear it at all anymore, although I did get in on a mineral makeup coop and found out that for the times I do wear it, I prefer that. I'm purging a lot of stuff lately and the makeup is probably next to go - all that I don't wear or is too old will get the boot.

I put between $50 and $75, but now that I think about it, it's probably higher than that.
