It's a boy! Wow!

MDC buddies-- the birth announcement we emailed out is below. Wow, what an experience. The birth story in brief-- contractions kicked in Monday evening/middle of the night. I wanted to labor alone until morning and let DH sleep, but by 3:00 am I really wanted someone with me. He was great, timed things and called the doula and midwife to let them know what was happening. Our doula came around noon on Tuesday and was such a tremendous help to both of us. Midwife came sometime in the middle of the night on Tuesday. Labor was around 34 hours or so. My contractions just never got closer than 5 mins, with a few exceptions. Our midwife was great, she did try some nipple stimulation and gave me the cohosh herbs, but remained patient and could see that things were progressing. A torturous moment was when she did examine me during two contractions to move the remaining bit of cervix out of the way. I pushed for about 2 hours, roaring through it. The vocalizing helped incredibly. I couldn't believe the moment when the midwife said, "reach down and take your baby" and I pulled him the rest of the way out. Unreal.

I'll have to sort out my thoughts and photos soon. We are thrilled and now taking on the challenges of breastfeeding! Homebirth was a phenomenal experience. I'm so happy it all worked out.

Love and hugs to you all. Hope the new mamas are doing great and those still waiting are feeling good and hanging in there.

We are thrilled to announce the arrival of

Jonah Harrison

His middle name is after his paternal great-great-grandfather, Harry.

Born on August 15, 2007 (his estimated due date!) at 10:17 am. He weighed 6 lbs 10 oz and was 19 inches long. He was born inside of his birth caul ~ truly special.

Everything went beautifully and we're all happy and healthy at home.

We hope you can meet him soon! DH read the poem below just moments after the birth and there wasn't a dry eye in the room.

lots of love,

A Prayer When a Child is Born

By Naomi Levy

Welcome, welcome to this breathtaking world. We have been waiting for you. Waiting to see your beautiful face, to hear the sound of your cry, to kiss you, hold you, rock you. You are the fruit of our love, of our hearts, of our souls.

We have prayed for this day, and now it is here. But no amount of anticipation could have prepared us for you. You are a miracle. You are a gift from God. You are ours.

May God watch over you in love and bless you with health. How can we express our gratitude to You, God? You have sent us a perfect blessing.

Thank You, bless You, Source of all life.
