I'm scared of wovens.

I don't have any diapers with woven fabric outers and I'm scared to try them.

I think I should try them though because I my knits seem to fade and fall apart, and there are so many cute woven fabrics (like the batiks at Lucy's Hope Chest).

But I'm afraid they're going to not be soft and cuddly.

Am I right or wrong?

don't fear the weave, mama! cotton poplin outers are smooth and soft like an old set of bedsheets, imho...

No! It's not rational at all! All I have are wovens and they are wonderful

That is part of the reason I don't like knits, they sometimes pill, they fade and I really don't believe they are as sturdy as wovens. Of course, my biggest factor is you just can't get nice prints in knits...no Asians, no batiks, nothing unusual...but that's just MHO.

As far as soft and cuddly, well, a woven is a woven. It's not, by nature as soft or stretchy as a knit. I get all my wovens with velour inners and they are plenty soft and cuddly. Also, depending on they type of woven, you can get some pretty scrumtiously soft ones...Terri had an orange floral diaper and that woven was almost like the brushed satin cotton sheets you find...it is amazing! That woven is as soft as silk.

I've tried knits several times and always wind up selling them, they just aren't my style.

most woven cottons are very soft! they have a coolness to them, as well, that i think is great for summer. and the prints... ah, the prints!

i do like knit outers as well- i think they're more durable, beleive it or not, because they aren't given to "stress points" the way wovens can be (because they're tightly woven) But then, if you get a printed knit it is bound to wear out faster.

Of course, i like plain diaper, too! Prints are lavish and great, but a plain hemp diaper with a little colorful (green) serging... i just got my first hemp firefly... can you tell? [size=.75]i have to go wash it so ds can wear it again... and again... and again...![/size]

They are soft..
The only thing is they are a bit smaller then your jersey diapers will be the Jersey has a natural strech to it but, your woveen wont.. You may need to order a next size up...

I love wovens on the outside of diapers for the wonderful prints!! SO many choices. And, they hold up really great in the wash. No pilling or fading!!

With the sizing issue, I disagree with what Liz said, only because a lot of diaper makers put a flannel layer inside their diaper, no matter what is on the outside, which makes them not stretchy anyway. So, for sizing, it wouldn't matter what's on the outside.Of course, that depends on the type/maker of the diaper & for some it may matter. Hope i'm not confusing you more, :LOL

Go for the wovens the prints are gorgeous and when I think of what wears out first between t-shirst and ds bittin downs. His t's always wear first. So I think woven has longevity on it's side.

As was said before wovens are not as nice as knits but they are soft. The only time you will run into them not being soft is if they have been laminated.

knits seem to pill, but they stretch. I have some wovens I really like.

Well, i like both. All my fitteds (LHC), are knits and are so soft. But i my woven prints. I have six, ordered 2 more last night, and i'm about to order 2 more--not sure if i was just telling you that or confessing: I don't know about others, but i know the wovens from LHC are nice and not crunchy. Plus, the inside is so freakin' soft!

I *much* prefer wovens over knits - they stay bright, don't pill, seem to be more durable. I have a few CBs with knit outers and while they are stretchy, they looked old and worn after 2 washes.

I'd have to say I like them both for different reasons...
I love the stretchiness of knits, but wovens come in so many great vibrant prints.
