GBS+ question - after the birth

So I just got a certified letter from my OB. I ended up having a home birth but the OB tested me for GBS & I was positive. They never told me the results. Anyhow, labor was less than 2 hours long so I wouldn't have been able to get the abx anyhow.

Today I got a certified letter from the OB urging me to inform my ped of my GBS status. The baby is now 2 weeks old.

What is the ped. likely to do with this information? Can the baby still get GBS?

At this point, the baby cannot develop GBS from infection at birth. If the baby develops an infection now it would be from skin contact with anyone in its environment. This is incredibly rare with babies who are full-term and healthy. So, your GBS status no long impacts this baby's health.

I would add late onset GBS infection is usually acquired from other infected babies or environment, such as in a hospital nursery. Seems to me you're safely nestled away at home

I told our ped (my labour was only a bit over an hour : ). I had a homebirth and was GBS +. I was planning on douching with hibicleanse (sp?) since we suspected I would have a quick labour. I didn't even have time for that because I went pretty much straight into transition (: again). I told the ped that we kept a close eye on dd2 for the first couple of weeks (I didn't take her in until one month) and he said that was fine. He was very laid back about it and did mention late-onset, but said that was highly unlikely.

love and peace.
