This is a spin off on the MIC free thread (and all the other lead toy threads).

How worried are you about all the recalls lately?

My kids don't put toys in their mouth anymore and I don't own any of the recalled toys anyways (except 2 of the Thomas trains that were recalled awhile back that I did put away) so it isn't something that I am super worried about. I am not taking away any of their non-recalled MIC toys and am not boycotting MIC stuff. It would be near impossible (and super expensive) to stop buying things that aren't MIC. And I mean stuff for the house too, not just toys.

I'm just wondering if I am not worrying enough about these recalls.

I didn't have any of the recalled toys, but I am not super worried. I don't buy a lot of toys for my kids anyways, and each purchase tends to be well-considered.

So-so. We didn't have any of the recalled toys and I don't tend to buy those types of toys. I am more worried about the paint on wooden toys. We do have a ton of Little People toys. Those are mildly worrysome.

So-so. If we had anything recalled I'd take it away, but we have very co-operative grandparents and not too many toys, so it's not a huge issue for us yet.

I put other because we dont have any of the recalled toys, I did take some away but they were plastic and were given as gifts I just regifted because I dont like him having plastic. However I wont buy anything MIC anymore for him. I have decided instead of having lots of things we'll just have a few really good things. I'm irritated because today we went to our local educational toy store. All Melissa and Doug MIC, Brio "designed" in Sweden MIC. WHY then is it sooooo much more expensive?? If min. wage in China is 60 cents an hour I dont see why some silly little Brio frog thing should be 40 dollars.

Its a lot of things for me. Money talks. And as far as safety goes, toys MIC are just not worth the risk for me. I only have 1 child now but I plan on having more so I expect my toys to last a very long time. I dont mind spending a little bit more.

I didn't vote because for me, boycotting products made in China isn't just about not trusting their product standards and being worried about recalls -- it's about humanitarian issues and the fact that I just don't want to support their government. There are some interesting points made here.

I don't have any of the toys that have been recalled.

I've been trying to avoid MIC stuff for a while now anyway, for economic, environmental, and human rights reasons though - not for personal safety reasons.

It's incredibly difficult, because even though something might be made not-in-China, they may use materials imported from China, and you'd never know. (Case in point, the pet food and toothpaste problems.)

Ds doesn't have any of the toys that were recalled. I would rather not have things that were made in China for a variety of reasons. Ds does have toys that were mid. It was much easier when he was a baby to find toys that were not. Now that he is nearly 6 he loves to play with Legos and magnetix. With the exception of all of his Playmobil it is hard to find toys that are not mid.

I voted not at all worried.

#1. They aren't my kids.

#2. Their parents aren't at all concerned and nobody got rid of any of the recalled toys.

#3. I haven't bought any new toys in so many years... I wouldn't even begin to know where to look for FP toys that are all at least seven years old.
(except for one little people fire truck and trash truck that I bought last year)

BUT, I'm going to be a LOT more cautious about what I buy in the future.

I voted not at all. Dd doesn't really have a lot of toys. Her preference is paper and writing utensils, crafts and pretend playing with stuffed animals. I don't think we even have any plastic toys, and to be honest I didn't even look. But I do think that this has raised my awareness about being an even more discerning consumer.

We don't have any of the recalled toys, and we have only a few plastic toys in general. So I'm not at all worried, and I'm not taking anything away.

I voted other. We didn't have any of the recalled toys, but I am not any more worried now than I was before all of the recalls. I can guarantee that there have been many more problem products that the gov't has turned a blind eye to. Instead of worrying about lead toys, lets worry about working conditions and product standards in China

I voted so-so... It has prompted me have a new rule about buying toys for the new baby. I'll be telling all friends and family no MIC toys at all.
