Scheduled Induction & Now Really Scared

I scheduled for Monday because my blood pressure has been up for the past month 140s/80s. I know that isn't terribly high but my last pregnancy it kept going up and I ended up inducing anyways at almost 42 weeks. Got through it without the epidural but it was not a pleasant experience.

I have other things too that make me high risk (age and risk of rupture due to previous uterine surgery) and have been advised not to go past 40 weeks which will be Thursday. If I wait too long I could end up with a c-section and that is really not what I want either. I have seen several doctors and they seem to be in agreement although at least one recommended I go directly to c-section and not risk a vaginal birth at all. All of them agree that if I do not have this baby on time then a c-section should be scheduled.

Monday works best with everyone's schedule, like dh who begins three weeks off on that day and can be here to help with everything. I don't want him just sitting around the house waiting for the baby to come.

Our plan is to go in Monday and if my cervix has not continued to dilate on it's own then we will leave and reschedule for Thursday. We will only be using Pitocin and doctor wants to make sure I am ready.

Anyways I am really having cold feet. I know that I am giving up any chance for a natural birth but don't know that putting it off a few days will really make a difference either. My anxiety is pretty high about either option.

I'm sorry, that's such a hard decision to make. But keep in mind you did it the last time you were induced, and knowing what you are up against this time will make you stronger, not weaker.

No advice, just support, mama. You are your own worst critic -- so be gentle with yourself!

Have you had a VE? Are things looking good for an induction? I'd say if so, go for it on Monday (with the understanding that you can try again on Thursday). If things are NOT looking so favorable (what is that score you get? A Bishops score or something?) why not try the EPO, herbs, spicy food, sex, and other natural induction techniques WITH DH (just have some good bonding time before the new arrival) and then go full steam ahead with the induction on Thursday. Lots of support headed your way. Please keep us posted.

Good luck mama. I had an induction a week ago and it went well. All in all, I'm happy with the end result eventhough it was a more intense labor than my usual.

If you're already dialating well, you might just have AROM and go into labor o your own. That is what has been done with my two inductions. Pitocin wasn't needed.

Good luck mama!

I just had an induction that went really well, even if it wasn't totally drug free. I don't feel any disappointment about it, but I think it's because my midwife really tried to make sure I had lots of choices and respected my decisions. I'll be sending you good vibes on Monday night!

Thanks for the support. We are going in tomorrow as planned but have let everyone know that if things look good we are going to reschedule for Thursday. I want to give my body as much time as possible. I may even let myself go overdue if the doctor agrees because even that seems to carry less risk than an induction.
