Birth Center indemnity insurance

I know this is a huge subject, but am just trying to get a general idea of the type of coverage free-standing birth centers in the US have? Is this mandatory?

I wonder if there is a skull and crossbones smilie...

I think it would depend on whether this is a regulated birth center or not. Around here, there are unofficial birth centers where people can go, like giving birth at someones house. there is no liability or any insurance really.

but regulated centers have to have insurance, i guess to would need to call each one and ask what their policy is like. I knew someone who had a private, beautiful center and had to quit mainly because of the insurance issue, it went from 3000/year to 30,000/year!
