What herbs work?

Hi mama's Just wondering if there are any herbs that can help regulate my period. Dh and i have been ttc for almost 11 months now with no sucess. I'm pretty sure my hormones are outta whack because i usually only have a period about every eight months or so. Another thing i've noticed is that for the past um...3 years or so i've been having to shave a lot of black hairs off my neck so i'm guessing that has to do with the hormones too. It took us about 4 years to get pregnant with ds and honestly i don't want to have to go through that again, but unless i do something it looks like i might have to So has anyone had any luck with herbs for irregular periods? If so which ones? I'm not really sure what i should be looking for.

Red Clover. Red Raspberry Leaf and Nettles. Red Clover helps balance you out hormonally as well as balance out the alkaline/acid levels in the uterus in favor of conception, Red Raspberry Leaf tones the uterus, and Nettles is a wonderful nourishing herb. Drink them as a tea, or as an infusion (which would be an ounce of the herbs steeped in boiling water overnight). A great source for either of these is www.mountainroseherbs.com

I have also heard that Dong Quai can promote menstruation which would be good if you are irregular, but I don't know much more than that.

Good luck!

Everything the pp said, you could try. Also vitex might work.

However, it sounds like you have PCOS, and usually the best treatment for that (without seeing a doctor and going onto metformin) is a glycemic diet. One of the keys to PCOS is insulin imbalance (for most people) and a glycemic balance helps put the insulin back in balance, which in turns helps all the other hormones balance out. I've heard lots of women say South Beach diet works for them, since it's similar to a glycemic diet.

Another book to check out for pcos is Fertility Foods. Pretty similar to South Beach or The Zone. It has a lot of great info in it and explains why diet and exercise works. It also touches on herbs and supplements.

For herbs, you might want to read Susun Weed. I would look it up for you, but a friend has my copy. She also has a website. But it has a lot of information on herbs and explains why they work.

Good luck

I second the Susan Weed. She is awesome. Actually, the info I gave you above I had gleaned from her book, Wise Woman Herbal for the Childbearing Year. It is such a useful book. Here are some links for you,and you may want to check out the forums there.

Thanks for all the advice and great links Has anyone heard of Maca root or MacaActive? I was doing a little web surfing on herbs for infertility and hormonal imbalance and it came up quite a bit. Here's a little info on what i found out about it: Maca: also as the aphrodisiacs, this herb improves the entire sexual functioning, including fertility, sexual performance, sexual desire. But, what makes it so special is it's ability to balance hormone levels by nourishing the hormonal glands. In this way it improves overall sexual functioning, and all disorders related to hormonal imbalance. It almost sounds to good to be true Here's a link with more info http://www.hrtnaturalalternatives.com/ If you know of anyone who's tried it let me know Thanks again

Flower essences can also help. Watermelon (the female flowers for you and male flowers for husband).
I would consider working with an experienced herbalist who can look at your overall condition.
Homeopathy might be good too.
Other things to check would be the functioning of the pituitary, liver. Herbs can help your body function better and be in balance.
Herbs work best not just plugged in instead of drugs but used in a wholistic context. Look at diet, exercise, stress, environmental factors, the whole of your life.

My husband was using maca. I bagged him to stop it because he was horny all the time. Anyway, Gynex helped me to regulate my period. I also took homeopathy( calcarea carbonica 30c and sepia 30c 2 pebbles 2x per day)
I hope this will help.

Here is web. www.energysp.com where you can find more info about gynex.
