My freaking insurance covers a midwife!!!! 100%!!!! WTH Who would have thought they would have covered that!? Now I am already set w/ my regular OB!
UG and get this they also cover a Birthing Center stay! like 85%! I am in: shock! Now what do I do? I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to give birth in a birthing center rather than a hospital! But I love my OB I am so torn! I don't even know how to go about finding a midwife where I live and all that

How awesome for you! I recently got coverage for my Birth Center birth too and am so excited!!

Look into all your options. It's worth being picky and switching care providers. There's good care and then there's GREAT care. Don't settle for less!

I can only find 1 midwife in Nashville.

I would find a doula and ask them who they know and would recommend. It might not be a bad idea to hire one anyway for anyone having a hospital or birthing center birth, although if you have had a successful first birth than who knows people might do great.

I should add that you can find a doula on-line at ALACE's or DONA's websites.

Look for a midwife by asking around, a lot! Most aren't listed in the phone book if you know what I mean. A year ago I thought there was one midwife in my area, but there are 4! Ask doulas, ask around. Maybe post to the tribe section of MDC. You'll find someone. And if you live in Tennessee you could go to the Farm!!!

Seriously, there's no reason not to pursue an amazing homebirth. YAY!

You are so very lucky, I should start collecting copies of policies that cover Midwives and Homebirth and send them all to my provider.

My ins doesn't cover homebirths but they do cover birthing centers I dont' think any ins co cover homebirths.

I looked at the offical midwife website I guess it what it was and it listed all the midwives in TN and that was the only one in Clarksville but I will look into it, thouhg honestly I am SOOOOOO attached to my OB I dont' know that I could leave him LOL I know that sounds silly but I have been going to him for almost 8yrs now for OB and Gyn and he is a family doc, so I am torn.

You know what? It sounds like you're happy with where you are. You trust your doctor to do right by you, having a home birth doesn't sound like a major goal, so what's the point in changing? Instead, tell your insurance company that you think this rocks, and then tell everyone else you know who's with the same insurance co.

I agree. There is no rule that you MUST have a homebirth or you're a horrible mother. It really is about doing what you're most comfortable with, and if you love your OB/family doctor, that sounds like he's what you're most comfortable with. And that's okay! We're all different.

I wouldn't have a home birth anyways but in a birthing center rather than a hospital would be nice, my kids are prone to coombs and after my last child having sever jaundice issues I would rather be somewhere where they can check the billiribun levels and such and keep an eye on that, but yes I think it is awsome that my ins covers that!

Mine does. I have Blue Shield of California and they pay 90% of allowable charges for a homebirth. Last time I got all my money back!

I agree with flapjack. If you love your OB and don't feel strongly about having a hb, then just keep with your OB.
