Just want to give up! - Page 2

I just want to clarify that sore tender nipples are normal at first. Real pain is not. If it hurts that bad, something needs to be altered, even if it's not a major problem.

Sorry! I still disagree. There was nothing to alter with dd. Nothing. I had hamburger for nipples the first few weeks. It happens.

Hang in there!!!!!!!!!

Before I had ds, my friend told me to get a calender and mark the date 6wks after he was born. For each day that passed, I crossed it out and knew that I was one day closer to the discomfort and pain ending. I wanted to quit so many times (I got mastitis when he was 1 wk old) but knowing that there was a definite ending point helped. I know it is different for everybody but it really was the 6 wk mark for me. Ds is now 14 mos and still nursing with no end in sight. I love that I am able to do this for him. I know it is hard but keep it up. You're giving your baby the best thing possible

Yeah, I'm going to have to disagree as well. I was in extreme pain for the first couple of weeks (longer with my first, partly because I was afraid to pump when I got engorged and it's really hard to get a good latch with massive rock-hard boobs ), anyway, I was in a lot of pain at every nursing for every baby.

Nothing wrong with their latch, no tongue tie, I just seem to birth really strong suckers! :

Someone told me to give it at least 6 weeks. It should definitely be nearly or all the way better by then. And it was. It took less than that with each consecutive babe, but it still hurt those first couple of weeks.

I know how it feels to curl your toes and cry at every latch on. It gets better, I promise!!

Mama, it gets so much better and easier!

Breastfeeding was painful every time for me for the first three weeks and then it got better quickly. Now at nine months I am so glad we kept at it. And so is my beautiful, chunky, boobie-holic

I just want to say that you ladies are right. It's been exactly two weeks and breastfeeding is SO much easier! It doesn't hurt that much at all any more and I expect it to keep getting better. I'm so glad I listened to you ladies and stuck with it. Thank you for all the encouragement! Now I'm just working on getting over severe mastitis and uterine infection. :

so sorry to hear about your uterine infection! I bet that was painful! I hope you're feeling better!!

with my first (twins), I also had a c after a long induction, so I was pumped up with all kinds of meds and my milk took forever to come in... and I must say, I thought I read all about bfeeding prior to the birth, but when it came right down to it, I was clueless. It took me a good 4 months before I knew what I was doing, and how to manage the issues that came up. I got the best support from moms at la leche league meetings. They're so caring and supportive - and have been there! which is the key. LCs are great at the facts, and can do weight checks, etc (which are pointless, in my mind... unless they're cumulative over a 24 hr periord... not every feeding is a meal, right? sometimes we're just in the mood for a sip of something...!)

good luck and hang in there. it really does get better. Each week is a new week and you and your baby are learning together.

I went on to enjoy a fab nursing relationship with the girls for almost 3 years. When DS came along 10 months ago, it was a total breeze. No issues, no plugs, just happiness...

so take care of yourself, keep asking questions, and you'll get through each hurdle.
