Torin Valor is here!!!

Thread Starter
As you all know, my water broke Thursday and I waited at home for like 14 hours but my labor never started. We went to the hospital and they started me on pitocin and a dose of antibiotics (for the prolonged rupture at hour 18 or so). After an hour or two of pitocin, the contractions got really intense and my doula arrived just in time. My hard labor only lasted about four hours and I never would have made it though (drug free!) without the support of my doula and DH. The actual birth was horrendously painful. Baby had decels that got progressively lower and longer, and my midwife decided the baby needed to get out as quickly as possible. My plans were to breathe the baby out and just let my body do it's thing, but the midwife made me bear down continuously even between contractions, while she did 'perineal massage' (HA, more like pried my vagina open). At the time, I was really mad at everyone for yelling at me to push, and mad at the midwife for stretching my skin so painfully, because, didn't they read my birth plan??? But I understand that it needed to happen. Oh, yeah, and I didn't even get to take a break after the head was out. I was like, where is my break? They made me push the shoulders out right away without even the help of a contraction. Torin was born with the cord around his neck and a true knot in the cord, but he came out screaming. I pulled him up to my belly where he stayed and no one bothered us with any procedures.

He was 8lb8oz and 20 inches long. Half a pound smaller than his brother.

I'll write a more detailed story later...

Big kudos to you for keeping it natural when I'm sure you were very tempted to do otherwise. It may not have been the birth you planned, but it sounds like you played the hand you were dealt with ferocious grace. Rock on!

I've been wondering about you.
What a strong mother you are. Sorry the birth had to be so rushed and challenging but so happy you and the baby came through it okay. Congratulations.
Love the name!

I'm so glad to hear you had that baby!!! Awesome job of keeping it natural! I had a similar pushing experience with this baby. Her heart rate dropped and I had to push nonstop - that's hard work!!! You go mama!!

Congratulations mama! I'm sorry it didn't go as planned, but it also didn't end up in a c-section for decels either!
