New with an IUI ?

My fertility doc said that we can not do IUI because DH sperm count is only 900,000. I still feel that it is worth a shot and since seeing as it is 12G less then IVF a month I would like to try this first.

Has anyone had this problem and what did you end up doing?

We have this problem too (well, my DH has less sperm than yours), and we skipped straight to donor sperm. Donor sperm with amazing counts, and there are no "problems" with my end of things, and we're on cycle three. IUI might sound cheaper, but it all adds up. What if the IUI doesn't work (and chances are it won't)? How many cycles will you try? Will you use stims? What's your next step? If IVF is your plan B, and I were you, I'd be tempted to skip straight to it.
However, if trying IUI first will give you peace of mind, go for it.
I hope you end up with a BFP in no time.

it may be worth a try but the success rates for IVF are just so much higher than IUI - with ICSI low sperm count is not too much of an issue. Plus, for me, every failed IUI was so devastating. I wish I had moved on to IVF sooner. But as long as you go into it understanding the low chances that it will work, then it may be worth it. Wishing you the best in your journey.

IUI w/ low count

According to my doctors and most of the research I've done you need 5 million sperm minimum to achieve a successful pregnancy. I'm sure it's possible to do it with less, but your chances would be extremely low.

We are doing IUI with donor sperm because dh has 0 count.

It sounds like IVF is your best option and has much higher success rates than IUI even with good counts.

Good luck to you.

Is that his pre-wash count? If it is, the post-wash count could be even less. I'd probably also consider ivf. I know I wish that we would have considered it sooner than we did. After 6 (failed) injects/iui cycles, I could have paid for ivf already. We're getting ready to start ivf next month and I feel like we're starting at square one, again. My dh always had a high count (10-24 mil), but has low motility (35%) Most of what I've read says that count always trumps the other sperm issues.

It is a very hard decision. I was stubborn and felt like iui would work. But ivf has such a higher success rate that I finally realized that ivf was the way to go. If you do decide to do iui, you might want to agree on a maximum number of times you'll try so that you don't spend money that could be going to ivf or another avenue.

Good luck with whatever you decide to try

For your peace of mind, you could try one or two cycles, just to see. Your chances are not great, but you'll know that going in. I talked to a coworker before my IUI last week, and she had this problem. She didn't know it until she showed up for the iui, which is when they told her his counts were too low and if they'd been aware of that, they would've recommended she go straight to IVF. She ended up pg with twins that cycle. I agree with cincynana, just set a limit on how many cycles of IUI you are willing to try before moving on.
