Doubler questions?

So I want to make my own doublers for my lil heavy wetter (and for my bedwetter also). I've got lots of old flannel receiving blankets and some fleece blankets laying around that I've been planning on cutting up and using.

Any ideas or advice on how to "stack" them up? I've got some towels I can cut up to put inside also. I don't have any MF towels on hand right now but I plan on getting some when I'm in town next.

What size should I cut them to? I cut one into about 4x12" strips (I'm using pf's and covers).

Also, what fabric should go next to the skin? Obviously not the MF, I know not to do that. I'm just having a hard time thinking logically thru this one, lol. If anyone could help me out, I'd appreciate it.

Thanks!

I love the 'fortune cookie' method for creating that sort of thing. What you do is you take one microfibre towel (or whatever other material you want to use) and one piece of flannel (or whatever you want next to baby's skin) cut to the same size. Sew them together on three sides (I like a nice zig zag as close to the edge as possible - if I had a serger, I'd serge the edges together). Fold the resulting fabric square into thirds so that the flannel is on the outside and stich along the bottom that hasn't yet been sewn.

The side without the flap goes against the baby; the side with the flap goes down. You only sew the one end so that it's pretty much already folded for you, but because the other end is open it dries much faster.

Clear as mud? Lots of people do them this way, someone must have photos...

Edit: duh, I learned via a tutorial linked here. It's here, at diaper divas. I think you have to join to see the tutorials, but that just takes a minute.

That's awesome, thanks! I'll definitely have to get some MF towels now!

The Fortune Cookie is what I'd suggest too

Just in case you weren't aware--fleece (the polyester "Polarfleece" kind that blankets are made from) isn't absorbent, so it doesn't make a good doubler material. If it's a *really* thin fleece--the kind that would be sold in a fabric store as "microfleece"--you could use it as the top (against baby's skin) layer for a wicking stay-dry doubler. But you can always use those blankets to try sewing some diaper covers
