Hi!!

I'm taking CJ to a new dr tomorrow b/c of probs with our old ped office. I know I'm very last minute in asking this. I'm sorry. :-)

I'm very strong in my opinion to not vax CJ (if you vax thats fine I won't judge you or anything, I just don't vax CJ) But when the dr asks me about vaxing and I have to tell him we don't do that I stumble and sound very uneducation on the matter. At least thats the way the old dr made me feel.

So can someone please give me some quick facts on why not to vax and the relationship it is believed to have with autism that I can practice saying for the dr?

Thanks!

Have you checked out the vax forum?

I took a quick look, and it appears that North Carolina has only medical and religious exemptions. Since that is the case, I'd simply say, "we are religiously opposed to vaccination" and leave it at that. Then if and when you send your child to school, you are on track to fill out a religious exemption. I wouldn't want anything on file anywhere showing my philosophical disagreement to vaccination when my state only offered religious and medical exemptions.

I would just say it's not up for discussion, it's against your beliefs.

Why? says the dr.

It's not up for discussion, it's against our beliefs. you say.

But what's your reason?

It's not up for discussion, it's against our beliefs.

etc...

I agree. Sounding educated isn't likely to make the doctor any more accepting of your decision. To my way of thinking, the burden of proof should be on the people wanting to inject the stuff into your child, not on you for keeping him intact.

But they don't see it that way, and even if you persuasively proved your case, the dr'd likely tell you it's all just an internet conspiracy-theory and you shouldn't be so gullible. Just swallow whatever he tells you instead!

By the way, some parents only take their children to the doctor's office if they're sick, or if there's some concern for which they want medical advice. For some of us, skipping the well-baby checks is an effective way to avoid being harassed about vaxes.

There is always the option of saying you are delaying, they don't need to know that it's indefinitely.

I refuse to get into a discussion about vaxs, they either accept my words that I'm delaying/not vaxing or they aren't the doc for me.
