Please tell me all the wonderful things about having one girl and one boy!

Looks like that will be my family--an older by more than 5 years dd and a baby boy...I'm a little disappointed because I thought a little sister would make a better companion for dd, but fate thinks otherwise! Can you tell me all the great things about having your biological children ending up to be one girl and one boy? What are the benefits you've seen, and ways that they are close and happy?

I have a boy and a girl and I'm pretty happy with it. I feel that being different will enable them to not feel like they are in as much competition as same gender siblings might be. I feel it gives them the ability to feel unique in their own way, but still have sibling. Sure there are things they'll miss out on that they would also have with a same gender sibling, but for me it comes down to not being able to have it all ways, kwim?

Yeah, I had a brother and we both felt unique, and had very little rivalry. But we are not close now--I hope that can be different with my two...

My brother and I had a great childhood together. I'd love to have a girl and a boy. I did a ton of 'boyish' things with him that I might not have if I had a sister. And viceaversa.

He and I are very close now (26 & 28).

I have a boy and a girl that are 4 years apart (the boy being older in my case). They get along great! I agree with the PP who said it's good for the girl to be exposed to more boyish things and vice versa. And I would imagine there will be significantly less sibling rivalry between them, especially in the teenage years.

My brother and I are 2y2m apart. We are very close now as adults. We were reasonably close as teenagers and very close as children.

Thanks everyone. Yes, I think a boy influence could be good for me and dd--this year we have gone pretty far into the world of clothes and primping--she also has an outdoors/athlete side--and I hope a boy can bring that out in both of us. Even though I wanted another girl to just add to our girly world, but maybe this will be healthier and more balanced all around--thanks mamas
