Business trip bonus

DH had to take a business trip to newark a few weeks ago. He's taken daytrips down there before, flying down in the morning and back at night this one happened to be overnight and he hates when the planes are delayed and he's stuck for hours. I suggested this time he drive - its a 4 hour drive, and with driving to the airport, waiting, etc its pretty much 4 hours or more to fly. Well, the company just reimbursed him for the driving trip - $280! He only spent about $55 in gas! I know the rest is for wear and tear and insurance, etc but I don't feel like the trip really was that bad for our car! And, I didn't get a call from him saying 'my plane is delayed, I won't be home until 2am' this time...

I do wonder about the added environmental impact, but then again, he would have had to drive 2 hours to and from the airport here, and some amount there, and its not like planes run on hydrogen.

BTW, DH says Newark is just GORGEOUS. Truly Lovely. He can't wait to go back.

The environmental impact of flying is pretty bad, or so I've read.

And I can't say I've ever heard someone say Newark was lovely. You're talking about the city in northern NJ with the big airport, right?

Your DH got that much because companies reimburse so much per mile when a personal vehicle is used for business purposes. I know someone (who is a hospice chaplain) that saved all his mileage checks for some years. He was able to pay CASH for a brand-new Focus hatchback two years ago.

Dh flies on business every month. I hate it when the flights are delayed or better yet - canceled. Except last month because for once the flight there was canceled, so he didn't have to fly out until 10! Usually he leaves the house at 4am!

If it were me, I think I'd make a special fund for automotive expenses and stick that $225 in it!

Definitely - his company headquarters are in Union, NJ, and now his boss is too, so he tends to go down there twice or three times a year.
