What do YOU do while you BABY-WEAR?

What activities do you do while you baby-wear?

The unfortunate reality is that there are things we cannot do while baby-wearing, or things we can do but are pretty difficult (scrubbing the floor, picking toys up off the floor, anything to do with the floor, reaching for high objects, etc.)

So, tell me what you're able to do.

When DD was smaller/less fidgety, I'd do dishes, work on the computer, do laundry...lots. Now that she's crawling she alternates wildly between "I want up NOW" and "put me down, I want that". So now I wear her still for hikes, running around outside, errands, mowing the lawn, and hanging laundry on the line. Dishes, vacuuming she doesn't tolerate being worn. HTH.

I wore mostly while doing things like sweeping, dishes, cooking, walking, shopping. I am looking forward to lots of snuggling with my new little one in March:

Any and everything...except ironing (a rarity around here ) and stuff relating to the oven.

Sounds like a front carry? Back carries are so much easier for cleaning! Though trying to hold a dustpan with one hand and use the broom with the other has endangered my daughter's head even in a back carry . . .

Some of my favorite things to do while babywearing (not so much now she's almost 3!): shopping, nursing, eating (at a restaurant), going for walks.

I've been able to wear DD at the dentist before. She fell asleep in the sling and stayed that way up until near the end. Then she just stared and stared at the dentist in his striped shirt. The were very impressed.

We're moving, so lately I've been selling stuff to craigslisters while wearing her and packing boxes.

Laundry, the dishes, I even cooked once :

I plan to walk more with her once we get settled in a place where it's not a dillion degrees out all the time.

I have an ERGO reversable (goes both ways- front and back).

This brings me to another question.

Is it even possible for me to put it on backwards unassisted? My husband works during the day. How can I put it on backwards by myself?

If this isn't answered here, that's fine. I'm going to start a thread about this issue anyhow, maybe.

Anyway, now that Lu is two, it's mostly to walk into town, calm her when we're out too long, or have her take a nap while I'm shopping. I still use the Maya Wrap occasionally to go into the store for a short shopping trip, especially if I've just picked her up from daycare and she's feeling particularly snuggly. I don't really wear her in the house anymore.

Yep it's super easy to put baby in the ergo in the back carry. there are directions on the ergo website. You can put the carrier on your hip then rotate the carrier and baby, or you can just bend over and put the baby on your back. both take a day or 2 of practice.

Seriously, though, the Ergo ROCKS! I just got done cleaning the kitchen with dd (14 m) in it. I washed dishes, swept, and cleaned the stove. Easy as pie!

Let's see...

Gotten my hair cut
Gotten my teeth cleaned
Eaten dinner or another meal
Done errands, especially grocery shopping
Walked/walked the dog/hiked
Vacuumed/cleaned the house/laundry
Cooked dinner or another meal
Painted
Worked in the yard
Traveled from the Newark airport into NYC by myself with a suitcase
Went all over NYC, visited museums
Traveled through airports
Gotten my baby to nap
Breastfed my baby (usually while I was eating)
Typed at the computer
Gone to church
Saw a movie
Kept my ILs or stangers away from my baby

I'm sure there are loads more, but these are the ones I remember right now!

I like the last one best.

HOW? DS is 5 months and I was looking forward to doing this once I got him into back carry, but he screams bloody murder if I try to bend over the sink to wash dishes. And if I should dare to bend over far enough to put something on the lower rack of the dishwasher-- yikes, the neighbors would call the cops! Is this something he'll get over when he's older? Pretty much all he will stand for is walking, shopping, and maybe getting the mail.

We did almost everything in the sling. Although Ds is 11 months and very big so we do a lot less in the sling. Long walks are out. But shopping and basic duties are in. The little guy just wants to crawl...

I used a mei tai when I took my daughter to work with me. (I
m a house cleaner) She was 19 months then. (now she's 2, and I don't use it anymore). I vaccuumed and dusted book shelves. It didnt' wrok for stuff lke cleaning bathroom, and ironing, of course. I preferred front carry, but did use a back carry for dusting bookshelves. I coudlnt' wear her for more than 45 minutes. (I didn't get the mei tai til she was 19 months)

I also tried bowling with her in it, but that didn't work.

I would have liked iti for shopping, but I just couldnt' carry her for long enough.

My DD doesn't like it when I bend over, but most things I need to bend for, I can accomplish by squatting, and she's happy enough that way.

And if you brace the broom on your forehead while using the dustpan, then you don't stand so much chance of bonking the LO.
