Heart troubles :(

Well I had to go to the doc today I have been having chest pains for the past week and yesterday my heart started beating wierd and taking my breath away everytime it did it, well I went and my OB sent me to my normal MD to let her ck me out and as SOON as she started listening to my heart she said there is a def heart murmur there and she is having me wear the halter monitor for 24hrs and go Friday for an echo cardiogram thing done. So anyways she thinks I could be anemic and that could be a culprit or my thyroid acting up again or it could just be from the blood volume doubling in the 2nd trimester. I honestly think it is just from me being so stressed lately. But anyways just wanted to give an update.

Oh, how scary. My cousin discovered a heart problem during her first pregnancy and it was not fun. Hopefully this is something you'll be able to manage!

I hope everything goes okay for you, Mama.

s I have had an irregular heartbeat my whole life. What helps is magnesuim citrate. I would take about 200-400mg. My grandma has the same issue and her dr. even told her to do this.

I have read you can take up to 1000mg during pregnancy. (I am not sure how much is in your other supplements)

I hope you feel better soon,
Jen

Hope things settle down for you and that you start feeling better!

I have a heart murmur every pregnancy. Its caused by the amount of blood pumping and causing an echo. Its actually pretty common. It causes my chest to feel funny, and for me to not be able to relax or catch my breathe.

Nature - she said that might be what it is, but how wierd that it has never happened before this pregnancy in all my pregnancies.

Thanks everyone, I hope it goes away after pregnancy and they can give me soemthing to make it go away now bc it is very very bothersome I feel drained and like I am dizzy all the time bc of it

It could be that they just didn't pick it up. I know my murmur can't be heard at all unless they use the small side of the stethoscope. Some doctors don't bother to use that, and some do. I was originally diagnosed as having aortic stenosis for about 5 years until they figured out it was only a murmur.

I've never been given anything to make it go away though.. I'm not sure medication can fix a murmur. I hope your echo goes well though! Definitely test your thyroid if you think its that! Since I've been hypothyroid during one pregnancy, I get tested multiple times each one just to make sure its on track where its supposed to be. (I'm unmedicated)

Definately could be thyroid. My best friend recently had a mild heart attack because she had been off her medication for months and it really affected her heart. She felt dizzy and faint often and now that she's back on her Synthroid she feels normal again. Best of luck with finding out what the problem is- I know that is a scary thing to deal with.

Sorry you're having to go through this! I hope your dr. figures out exactly what's causing it soon.

Along the lines of what Nature said, I had a heart murmur that wasn't detected until *after* my second pregnancy ended. I was checked out by a cardio, and he and my dr. came to the consensus that it was due to the pregnancy. It disappeared within 6 months. Hope that helps some.

The more I read the more I see it def could be my thyroid, Ug I hate things that make you worry during pregnancy,
dh has a stethascope that the nurse at his work gave him a long time ago and I just remembered that he had it and I thought hey I am going to listen to my heart and see what it sounds like when I have that wierd feeling in my chest when my heart beats wierd well I can hear my heart beat just fine but as soon as my heart does that wierd thing it stops for a sec then starts again, now how freaky is that no wonder it takes my breath away and makes me feel all tingly and dizzy.
I hope I hear from the doc tomorrow sometime.

i also wanted to add that when my mom was pg with #2, she had ALL the symptoms of a heart attack. she went in and the md knew there was no way that a healthy pg woman age 27, even with a family history of early death due to heart attacks, could actually be *having* one.

apparently carrying around a toddler was putting a huge strain on her chest muscles, mimicking a heart attck.

i have a very irregular hb (murmur), and it has never been an issue, even during pg. but if you are under stress and with 4 kiddos, i can see how it could easily become a concern.

i hope you have a reassuring appt tomorrow.

oh I know how scary this can be. I hope you're doing ok!!! When I was pg with the twins, I had to have an echo done since my heart would flutter and race from time to time like crazy. It ended up being PVCs (I think that's what is called)... poly ventricular something-or-other... it was benign, and probably due to the increased blood volume. Take care and try not to worry too much about it - sounds like you're in good hands!

Yeah that is what some others have told me that it could be bc pregnancy can cause that, was they able to do anything about it?
