Midwife Opening
EdenWay Birth is looking for a midwife to join a growing practice in Shreveport, LA. The practice is owned by Charlotte Russell, a certified professional midwife licensed in Texas. EdenWay’s office and birth center is located in Shreveport, LA, near a large hospital that houses a level III NICU and the area’s only children’s hospital. We serve clients in a two hour radius of Shreveport, which is located in the northwestern corner of Louisiana, 20 minutes from the Texas border and an hour from the Arkansas border. We are about 1.5 hours from Tyler, Texas, 3 hours from Dallas, Texas and Lafayette, LA, 4 hours from Houston, Texas and Baton Rouge, LA and 5-6 hours from New Orleans, LA.
The ideal applicant will understand that this area is predominately conservative (Christian or otherwise) but will be comfortable working with many different cultures and religions. She will be willing to trade on-call time, teach and train an apprentice, and share office hours. She is expected to be comfortable attending a birth as the primary midwife, have her own equipment, have her CPM, and be able to meet Louisiana’s midwifery license requirements. New graduates or those finishing their apprenticeships are also invited to apply, as long as you are able to meet requirements for licensure in Louisiana. Willingness to license in Texas and/or Arkansas (both of which accept CPM credentials) is a plus. Applicants are expected to understand and be willing to abide by the regulations governing midwifery in Louisiana, and should be willing to become politically involved in the movement to change midwifery regulations in this state.
Relocation to the area is required. No moving assistance is available. 4-6 clients per month are anticipated; however, NO PAY IS PROMISED OR GUARANTEED.
A probationary period of 6 months will be offered with a profit sharing agreement during this time. Profit share may increase as responsibilities increase. During the probationary period, midwife will be paid as an independent contractor and is expected to file and pay her own taxes. At the end of 6 months either EdenWay Birth or the applicant may dissolve contract. If applicant chooses to continue, pay structure and taxes will be revisited and a meeting with our business attorney will be arranged to draw up a permanent contract. A no-compete clause is included in this probationary offer: if the contract is dissolved, applicants must agree that they will NOT stay in area and work as a competitor.
Applications will be considered through October. Start date is flexible and applicants are encouraged to come visit the practice and the area before making a decision.
Please submit your resume, your midwifery philosophy, two references (one personal and one professional) and any other information you feel is important.
