Baby is here but very sick...

I am home as of yesterday after a very easy and uncomplicated vaginal birth. However Nathaniel did not fare as well as I did. He was born with multiple health problems and is in the NICU. We were followed throughout the pregnancy by the peri group there and none of this was expected. He is on a vent after having breathing difficulties. He also has an intercranial bleed (in his brain) that went undected in utero. It is thought that the bleed is in the part of the brain that controls respirations. They also suspect Down's Syndrome. At this time we don't know what his condition will be and they expect to keep him for a few weeks to first get him to breathe on his own and then to work on feeding issues. He is not able to nurse.

He is nine pounds and 21 inches long.

We would appreciate prayers for him and our family.

Anne

I am sorry to hear of his struggles coming into the world.

You are welcome to make your way over to special needs parenting, even if he isn't special needs, there are a lot of NICU vets there that can sympathise and help answer questions. Plus, a lot of us have had to deal with the stress of having huge medical interventions when we are AP/NFL parents, and that is a hard thing too.

Also not in your DDC, but couldn't read and not post. I will certainly say a little prayer for your son tonight. It's all you can do to be strong and present for your son, and I hope you find much support here on your son's path to healing.
