Thought I'd start a new appt thread since the older one is well buried. I had my 16 week appt on monday. Everything looks great! My blood was 116 over something, I've gained 10 pounds from start to now, and have very happy baby according to Dr T. He was having a hard time keeping the baby's heartbeat because each time he would pick it up the baby would move. Finally he got it consistantly and it was 139. He told me all the movement meant a happy baby. I had a lab draw for the down's test. Go back in a month for my 20 week ultrasound.

Appointment on 8/27 at 15 weeks - my 2nd appointment! What should I expect? Will they listen for heartbeat, check uterus position/size, and not much else? Should I start talking about birth options/wishes with them, or is it too early?

Just had my second appointment with my midwife. We discussed the stuff I brought up on my thread about ultrasounds, SBS screening, eye ointment, etc. and also about some of the stuff that is going on with me. It went really well. For those who remember the drama with the MWs dh last time, he wasn't there and it was a great visit, we just brought my dd and it was much more relaxed although I could tell that my dh wasn't comfortable but he was good. We all got to hear the heartbeat and my uterus is a bit higher than it should be but not so much it wouldn't even out over the weeks (what would that mean anyway, I know I might sound ignorant but I have assumptions but they could be wrong). I overall had a really good time. She's going on a month long vacation next month so I will be having an appointment with her backup mw which isn't a bad idea anyway. I can't believe the time is going so fast. I am torn between wishing the time away and wanting time to slow down. Doesn't help that I just registered my daughter in kindergarden today (which is crappy because of me wanting to homeschool or be in a much smaller school). Oh well so for the novel. Hope every one is doing well.

my appt yesterday afternoon was WONDERFUL!
we got to hear the heartbeat for the first time and it's absolutely amazing how that sound can make all the puking and aching and misery of the last three months just disappear.
she also checked all the basics and i'm still right on track for february 23. we decided that we will wait to have an ultrasound until 24 weeks when we have the best chance of determining the sex and we can also get a good look at the brain, etc.
it wasn't a very complicated appointment. we spent most of the time listening to the baby swim around. this was actually my third appointment and last time was the most involved. that was when i had a physical exam, went over lab results from the blood drawn the week before, etc.
slgt, i don't think it's every too early to talk about birth options/wishes. at least get the conversation going. with my mw, we've kind of talked a little each visit about these things. she's really great about helping me not get overwhelmed, encouraging me to take the time to really mull over everything.

Definately not too early to start talking wants and wishes. Personally I haven't yet but I feel pretty lucky with my dr. He's not pushy about anything. Mom is definately in charge of the pregnancy as long as she and baby are healthy and doing well. He very much likes to let your body and baby determine when it's ready. I've had friends who go elsewhere and the minute they are overdue the dr is talking about inducing. Yikes. So for me a few things really will go unspoken since I know how he is about is patients. Most of what I need to talk about is creature comforts-dim lights, few intrusions, etc....

We had our first official appt last Saturday at just over 12 weeks. We heard the heartbeat, which was magical and amazing. I lost 4 pounds since becoming pregnant! We tacked on a few days to my edd since my cycles are something like 28 1/2 days long, so I'm back to February 28 (probably a March baby, realistically). The great thing about having a hb midwife is knowing that 99% of what I want is what she'd do automatically. I feel really good about our care provider.
I'm now just over 13w and feeling pretty overall great. I still have occasional indigistion but it seems to be improving day to day. I am, however, hitting a wall of exhaustion at 9 pm.
DH is becoming attached to the babe. We have a name picked out for a boy and using it is exciting.
I am starting to show a weensy bit. I can't wait to have a tum and feel the baby move.
Next appt is Sep 22, when I'll be 17 1/2 weeks.

Just want to add my appt. I met with my MW at 10 weeks and heard beautifeel heartbeat, and I meet with my family practise Dr on Tuesday, or rather one of his NP's. BTW, because I went to ivillage instead of counting myself, I thought I was 15 weeks tomorrow, however after battling exhaustion I finally counted myself and I will be 14 weeks tomorrow, and for some reason, I am OK with that. But right now I am so exhausted I am about to-zzzzzzz.....

We had our 2nd appt this past weds with a CNM. I'm working on acquiring a hb mw but for now I'm doing the prenatals here. We talked about the hospital birth experience. She seemed cool enough, but the doctors of the practice won't "let" anyone go past 42 weeks. Which is crap because, well, are they the ones pregnant? No, I don't think so!
But I guess this CNM was cool enough within the confines of the practice. The CNMS of the practice (there are several, maybe 7?) of which we only get to see two at our office, are all on call different days, so if I stuck with this, I could have a CNM I've never met before. Not my idea of ideal, yanno.
I do get to go to a homebirth meeting on Sept 10 where I will make some connectoins and meet some folks who know about HB, so I am very excited. I"m also having another appt on the 17, bc dp wants to get that stupid quad test
and then another a few weeks later to have the u/s.

I'm going UP, but we are getting a 3D u/s Wednesday afternoon to try to see what this little one is. IM and I are so convinced its a boy that it will be a huge shock if we see a girl. I think I'll need the next 22 weeks to get use to calling him "her". I'l be 18 weeks + some days {I forget exactly} and if they can't find it then they said they'd give us a free u/s later to find out. We are all super excited to see the bean!!

2nd appointment today @ 15w. Wheee - it is so magical hearing the heartbeat again! Poor dh could see the panic rising in my face in the 40 seconds or so that it took her to find the hb. My uterus is right about level with my belly button, and baby is swimming around just below my belly button. I'm short-torsoed, so I guess that's about right! We both really liked the ob that we met with today. Our practice has been described by everyone who uses them as midwives who have medical degrees - 3 obs (all women) and one mw. So far, we've seen 2 obs and they both seem like people who would really take care of us and be advocates during the birth, and I've been told that the mw also comes and stays with people during birth as much as possible.
We are mostly decided to do the 20-week ultrasound. My rationale is that, if there are going to be any physical conditions that are going to require that my baby be whisked into surgery immediately, or physical surprises such as a missing limb, I'd much rather know now than at birth. However, we are going to continue to avoid the scans.
I'm on cloud 9 - that heartbeat is just magic!

Just had my appointment today.
Heartbeat was in the 130-140 range.
Nothing else exciting. I think that the OB spent a total of 5 minutes with me. We scheduled my next appointment and the ultrasound, and she gave me the lab papers for the quad screen.
