Book Recommendations for mom of 12 month old

Hi Everyone,

I've lurked in this forum for awhile. My DD just turned 1 and I know it's time for DH and I to get on the same page (or on any page) in regards to discipline. I don't need to be convinced that hitting is bad and neither does he. We don't need to be converted, but we do need somewhere to start.

What books would you recommend as beginning reading for both of us with our one 12 month old DD? I plan to buy a few books to start and then supplement with books from my LLL library and such.

Thanks,
Sage

What a fun age!
Books that transformed parenting for me (and I re-read them often) are:

Unconditional Parenting by Alfie Kohn (my BIBLE of parenting books)

Raising Your Spirited Child by Mary Sheedy Kurcinka (this helped me learn of different personality traits that all kids can have even if they are not spirited and it helped me recognize traits about myself and my husband too)

Connection Parenting by Pam Loew (a simple, fast & sweet read)

Raising a Thinking Child (I'm reading this now and LOVING it - it's a very easy method of how to teach your child to problem solve)

Best of luck!

I love most things by Sears. Their The Baby Book is an invaluable resource for babies and toddlers up to 2. I probably consulted that more than any other book while dd was young. They also have a Discipline Book, but I have not used that as much.

Adventures in Gentle Discipline by Hilary Flower

How Children Learn by John Holt is not about discipline, but thinking about how kids think and develop can help to shape your ideas about how to discipline.

yes! i read this at 13 months with DS and it was perfect timing. see if it's in your LLL library because it's an LLL published book.

the other book that has really resonated with me is Playful Parenting by Lawrence Cohen.

My lifesaver for ages 1-2.5 years was Becoming the Parent You Want To Be.
"Honor the impulse" was my mantra for over a year. I would have gone crazy without it. lol. www.becomingtheparent.com

I loved UP but still needed some concrete steps/things to do. I needed answers to my what if's.

I also really like anything by Jan Hunt. I LOVE her book Natural Child: Parenting from the Heart. There are some articles by her here www.naturalchild.org
