How long did (or will) you guys wait to DTD after birth? It'll be 2 weeks tomorrow and I'm starting to want to. I know they recommend 4 weeks but that seems long...

I thought it was supposed to be 6 weeks.
I am 2 weeks pp today, and nowhere near ready to stick anything in there. But, at about 10 days, I gave DH some oral sex. He was really stressed out, and it was also a good way for us to reconnect.
I think I can fend him off with that until I am ready for vaginal sex.
I knew the sex thing was going to be an issue for us after the birth. We have super chemistry, and have never even gone a week in between before. Sex is such a major part of our connection, so I was afraid we wouldn't be as close for a while without it. And it turns out that we both have been feeling a bit isolated.

But don't forget you can always be sexual in other ways than just intercourse

Yeah. No weekly thread. I thought about it, but I seem to have lost all motivation. I am only 39 weeks but I just feel sooooo done and I am struggling with the very real concept that this babe may end up being born in (ack) Sept. Blah. I know first-time mommas often go "over" but NONE of my first time momma friends actually have been late! All of them (and it wasn't alot, I only have 6 friends with babes) gave birth between 36-39 weeks. Two of those were inductions for high BP so I guess they probably shouldn't count. But GAH! I really wasn't prepared to be this uncomfortable or for the pregnancy to last this. Silly of me, I know.

The last time we DTD was the night before i went into labor - it worked (for me and a friend and my SIL)! It's been over two weeks now and i'm planning on waiting until after my 6 week mw check up. we were talking the other night and both dh and i said the thought at this point still made us nauseous. i'm definitely still recovering. i seriously gagged when they warned me not to use tampons to stop the bleeding. ugh. (shudder)

Sex?

Good one. It'll be at least a month before anything goes near me with that intention! I shudder to think about it. Then again, my tear is still healing.

my mw says 3 weeks is okay, that 6 week prohibition comes from when you can get in the mikvah (a religious rule not relevant to dh and me).

Thanks for all the responses....
Now my really pressing question which has taken precedence over the other one by far....
I'm so backed up. I can't get it out. I bought Docalax (sp?) yesterday but the problem is it has already come down and ready to exit but CAN'T. I've been in this position since sometime early yesterday. I don't know what to do. Have any of you experienced this or know how to handle it???

As for the sex ... it'll be 2 weeks tomorrow and I have no interest in it whatsoever. My stitches are healed and I could probably do it if DH wanted to, but he hasn't mentioned it. He's leaving in a few days so my next opportunity will be 9 months from now which is fine with me!

Yes, I had that problem. Mine was mostly from fear rather than constipation though. I waited 5 days pp before going for the first time, but I did take Colace almost every day leading up to it. Have you tried Colace? I've had better luck with Colace than any of the other stuff out there.

Wendi, I guess it depends on how you feel. Does it hurt? I would think eventually stuff would build up behind it and push it out, but that could be painful. If you get really uncomfortable, it might be worth an enema just to be free of it.

Any idea how long this bleeding should last? It has been mostly brownish for the past week, with occasional drips of bright red. Is there something I can do to speed it up?

Leigh,
With DS, I was still spotting about four weeks later. All the books say it shouldn't last more than a week, then I started talking to doulas, other mom's, etc, and found that it's pretty common for it to keep happening for more than a month. But, I know other women who only bled for a week and then were fine.
Just take it easy, and don't over exert yourself. It'll stop when your body's ready for it to stop.

The very thought of sex makes me nauseous. I'm almost 3 weeks pp and have no interest whatsoever. Dh was being very amorous yesterday so I appeased him orally, but my heart was not in it. I really just wanted him to stop groping me. I'm way too stressed to even think about ddt. But I certainly wouldn't mind a few more hugs. I really don't need much sexually anymore, sad, I know. I think I sexed myself out when I was younger. Aren't women supposed to peak in their 30's? Where's my flippin' peak?!?!

Quentinha: constipated here too...
TMI WARNING: I have a lot of experience with constipation, going back pre-pregnancy. The first lines of defense are glycerin suppositories (first) and enema (second). Caffeine definitely gets things moving. In fact, my 1st tri constipation crisis was due in large part, I think, to caffeine withdrawal.
: Sitting in the bath might make you feel better. It sounds like you are in extremis!
Leigh, My MW said the bleeding could go as long as 6 weeks, but would be intense for 2.

My midwife told me whenever I was ready it was fine. She suggested we use condoms though to prevent infection. ( I was about 4 weeks post=partum when I asked about sex. )

I just want to brag here: we went for our ped appt., and she has not only regained but SURPASSED her birth weight. I can't tell you how relieved I am. When I was pregnant I was a little horrified to discover that I was born weighing only 5 lbs., 12 oz., but my mom was quick to add that I was up to 50% by my first . She said this with waht I then believed to be inordinate pride, betraying an obsession with external standards, etc. Now I see what she means! It is just awesome affirmation.

Glad to hear that the new babes and mamas are doing well. Please send your happy, positive vibes the way of the rest of us who are still waiting. Just now officially "due," and previously I got (secretly) a little annoyed at clients who would pout if they went one day over their EDDs, but GEEZ I WANT THIS KID OUT!!
: .
It is incredibly hot here, and VERY humid, so distracting myself with errands, etc isn't much of an option . . . . AND today the driver's side window of my car decided that it will no longer go back up . . . . which means that even with the AC full blast (which is normally not the greatest anyway, as the car is 10 years old) it's still freakin HOT in my car.
UGGHH. What a whiner I am!

Ahhhh, weight gain.
On day 5 when we went to the specialist for tongue tie, she weighed him and he was an ounce higher than his birth weight. This happened after 3 days of starvation followed by 2 days of cup feeding a mix of pumped milk and formula. The cup was a method that got a lot of stuff into him fast. But it was messy and involved pumping and cleaning the pump and storage bottles all the time. It would only take 10 minutes to feed him to REALLY full, but then I had to get out of bed and go pump.
He hated formula. When I would run out of milk half way through the feeding and switch to formula, when he would get the first mouthful he would make a face and spit it out all over. He was so sticky that first week.
