nak

there's a possibility that i am pregnant right now, and i'm worried about my pelvic floor. i'm 10 months postpartum and yet i have those pads of flesh down in my vagina (you know what i'm talking about right?) and my pelvic floor has been low since giving birth. (not quite IN my vagina, but still very low)

my question is : is there any possibility that i will have problems with my pregnancy or giving birth again because of this??? i had a difficult pushing stage because of DS's position, and he ended up coming out REALLY fast so i think that could be a reason for all this.

i just became a student midwife last month, so i'm not quite there in my studies yet. please excuse my ignorance.

thanks for your help!

No suggestions, I'm not a midwife but I'm curious to know the answer. I have those pads of flesh you're talking about since having my 3rd child in November.

Are you working with your pelvic floor--exercises for toning? Stretching and toning of pelvic floor, abs and back would be a good idea I think.

Are you having any urinary incontinence or lacking the ability to completely void urine (resulting in dribbles maybe when you stand up from toilet, or at other times)? if not, then your pelvic floor may not be in such bad shape....

but I'd need to know more...

thanks for responding. i've been doing kegals as often as possible to answer your question. the only problems i have are i sometimes have to push a little to get all the urine out when i pee and sometimes it's hard for me to completely empty my bowels, but that could also be due to not drinking enough water and not getting enough fiber, right? does that answer your questions? i just worry what this situation will do to my pregnancy and birth ya know? any other comments would be appreciated too. thanks

Unless the bladder was prolapsed down in front of the baby, it would unlikely to cause a problem with the birth. Even then, it's likely the baby would squeeze through.
You might have more problems with not getting all the urine out - many pregnant women have problems getting complete emptying. Someone with a no-longer-straight-and-direct urethra could have more problems. It's a hygiene issue and an annoyance issue, but shouldn't cause "problem".

Stretching it for advice - maybe make sure you pee regularly in labor to keep the bladder in it's rightful place, unable to be pushed around.

The right physical therapist can work wonders. I would highly recommend visiting one! Especially as you start attending births - it's hard not to push with the mama. That's not good for the pelvic floor.
