What time does your 3yo dc wake up ?

I am trying to see what is a good pattern for sleep here...

ds is lacking sleep, is always tired and lethargic, but wont sleep
he wakes up at 6am sometimes earlier, has been for the past month. it does not matter what time he goes to bed. if he naps(which usually he does, he has to!) he will go to bed at about 10-11pm and still wakes at 6! He is very tired by around 9am but hangs on until naptime at 1pm. If he doesnt nap, he goes to bed at 8pm and still wakes extrememly early~ is this normal? Thanks!

My dd goes to bed around midnight and wakes up between 9 and 10.

My dd goes to bed between 9-10 and wakes up between 7-8. Usually does not take a nap, but if she does she doesn't like to go to bed at night :

My dd goes to bed around 9 and wakes up around 8. She hasn't taken a nap in a long time, she has never been big on sleeping, much to my dismay.

My ds is happiest when we manage to get him into bed by 7:30-8, and wakes around 6:30-7.
If I don't have my act together for the early bed he's not happy.

He is not much of a napper but on days when we have company or are out and he doesn't get to bed till later I will encourage some down time in the afternoon, maybe a nap or just some quiet time in his tent with a movie, then he's more energetic for the rest of the day.

DS goes to bed between 9-12pm (we don't do bed times) and he wakes at around 7am. He still takes a 2+ hour nap everyday too.

dd goes to bed at 8:30 PM and usually wakes up around 8:30 - 9:30 AM. She doesn't always fall asleep at 8:30, sometimes she plays in her room for a bit first. She has a "quiet time" in the afternoon when she plays alone in her room for awhile; sometimes she falls asleep during this time but she has been napping less and less as she gets older.

my kids are early risers; no matter what time they go to bed, they will wake up between 5 and 7 (usually on the earlier side of that). They need about 11 - 12 hours of sleep or else they are a mess (violent, weepy, clingy, etc). I need to get them to sleep by 6 or 7 or there will be hell to pay.

FWIW, it took until DS1 was almost 4 for us to fully realize the connection lack of sleep had on his behaviour. Most people are appalled that I put my kids to bed so early but to me it is cruel to them to not make sure that their bodies are getting enough rest and to force them to live with the consequenses that lack of sleep causes them.

My dd sleeps from 7 until 7 generally, and does not nap.

She too always gets up at 7, even if she doesn't go to bed until late. IN that case, she is very tired during the day, and usually falls asleep around 6.

up anywhere from 6-8 a.m. and goes to bed usually between 8-9, no later than nine unless special occassion or we're traveling or like that

I totall agree with this. Should I cut out the nap, even when he is getting 7 hours of sleep at night?? I know he needs more sleep, said he has above behaviour.

Currently I work so daycare is a factor in DS #2's sleep schedule.

On weekdays - he has to be up at 6am to eat breakfast and leave by 6:30 - he usually needs to be woken up. He goes to bed by 8 pm and has a 1.5-2 hr nap or so starting around noon.

On weekends, vacations he still goes to bed around 8 pm but will sleep until between 6:30 am and 7 am. He still has a long nap daily but not until closer to 1 pm. If he naps any later than that it is hard to get him to bed on time.

I think you need to try and move naptime up if possible, then maybe you can get your son to bed earlier. It's hard to adjust the waking time, so your best option is to adjust the bedtime, and it definitely sounds like your boy could use a little more sleep.

Good luck!

My DS (just 3) goes to bed around 8:30 or 9 pm and wakes up around 6:30 am... Sometimes earlier. No matter what time he falls asleep at night his body clock is set for no later than 6:30 am for wakening up. He does still take a nap from 3-5 pm. There is no way I'm letting him drop his nap either because when he does not have a nap the rest of the night is horrible for everyone!

ds usually goes to bed around 7-8p, and wakes up around 7.

if he stays up really late he usually ends up waking up realllllly early (5-6a).

Ds usually goes to bed between 7-8 pm and wakes around 6 am. He would wake up at the same time even if it went to bed at midnight. That's just the way his internal clock works. He usually takes a nap for at least one hour around 1pm.

My 3 year old usually goes to sleep around 8/9 and gets up around 7:30ish. No naps, since she was 2! Ouch!

I agree with some posters that a later bedtime signals an EARLIER wake-up time for her too. If we have a late night she's exhausted and grumpy, then up around 6. It might be worth it to try to move his bedtime up for a week or so to get him used to it and see if that makes a difference.

Another thing that works for us (some days!) is telling her we're not getting up until the clock has 8 as a the first number. She's not great at telling time yet but that's easy enough. She's told me several times that she woke up when the clock said 6 but went back to sleep because it wasn't time yet (and that's of her own doing, I just say she needs to be quiet!), and those are the days she's better rested and happy. You can even write a big 8 (or 7 or 6!) and put it next to the clock so he knows what to look for in the middle of the morning.

Good luck!

Owen goes to bed around 8-9 (most days, some he's up until 11) and wakes around 7-9, usually. No naps.

Here too. No matter what time they go to bed they will always wake up at 5:30-6am. So, we aim for that early bedtime of 7pm. The other night ds asked to go to bed at 5:45pm Ds (now 4.5 years) has just started to realize that he can go back to sleep if he's still tired. He still wakes at 6am but can drift back to sleep for another 30 minutes or so if dd doesn't entice him to play . Dd, on the other hand, pops out of bed at 5:15-5:30am every morning :yawning:
