Does he know how to cook? The cheapest thing is really to buy mostly rice and dry beans but he'd have to know how to cook them.

Milk, eggs, cheese, bread, peanut butter, pasta, pasta sauce, rice, bean, fresh fruit and veggies, granola/cereal, salad/mixed greens...not sure if he has any dietary restrictions, but this list would probably be safe.

Do you belong to a box club like BJs? You can get giant bags of frozen veggies, big tubs of hummus, boxes of cereal with three bags in them, six packs of soup, 50 pounds of rice, etc, etc, mine even carries veggie burritos and boca burgers. $40/$50 can go pretty far in there...

What a wonderful thing to do for a friend! I've had a great friend do this for me a few times and I was so greatful to her for this gift!

I'd say eggs, milk, cheese, bread (brown or whle wheat NOT iccky white bread) pasta, sauce and some veggies and fruit for sure.

He can have an omlette with the eggs, cheese and milk or make French toast or some fried egg on toast or some fried eggs and potatoes for breakfast. Those are just a few things he could make with what you got for him.

: What was I thinking? Do I really need to tell anyone here not to get iccky white bread?! Must be my fever!!

If he's like most guys I know:
Mac & Cheese
Ramen
Bread
Peanut Butter
Jelly
Eggs
Cheese
Bologna (yes, bologna)
a small jar of mayo
bag of potatoes
an onion
milk

Unless he's actually into the healthy organic stuff (I know they exist, but I've never met a guy who is...meaning I personally would buy from this list and not hummus and rice and stuff), he'll be happy with that very cheap list and be fed for at least a week.

I was going to say 100 packs of ramen for $10, but she did say healthy! My husband went away for 2 months early in our dating, and he lived on pb&j and ramen. Nothing else, unless you count beer as a food, and many men I know do!
