OK, I already promised tonight not to wear my professor hat anymore, but here I go again:
If the amniotic fluid level is over 2000ml (95th percentile), it is a condition called polyhydramnios. If they said your level was only slightly elevated, than you probably don't even qualify for this diagnosis, but I'll tell you about it just in case.
Most cases of polyhydramnios are mild and result in few if any complications. Even if you do have polyhydramnios they may just want to monitor your fluid levels more frequently and check the baby more often for growth and such.
65% of the time, there is no known cause for polyhydramnios. Sometimes it can be caused by maternal diabetes or twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome, when one baby gets too much blood flow and one gets too little. This is only in identical twin pregnancies, though. Very rarely polyhydramnios can be caused by a congenital birth defect, but this is not common and if your biophysical profiles have looked good so far there is probably no reason to worry.
If you didn't hear from your midwife today, then I think it is safe to assume that your levels are only very slightly elevated and it is totally no big deal. If there was reason for concern they would have called you already. Ultrasound docs are really anal by nature (that's why they're good at their job), so they point out every tiny little thing. More than likely it is totally nothing.
