How to up pumping supply

When I pump, the most I ever got was 7oz. How do you ladies pump more than that in one sitting???

I make sure to keep changing the angle of the pump so that I am putting pressure on different areas of my breast. This gives me more than I would get if I just held the pump.

I'm curious to hear other people's suggestions, too.

Seven ounces is probably above average. How long are you pumping?

Have you tried the Marmet Technique and/or compressions while pumping?

Also, check out the "Sticky" at the top of this board. It is based on a thread started by someone with supply issues. There are two or three posts from me with Supply and Pumping tips.

Some of the links in those posts might be dead. Let me know if you need any help tracking one of them down.

7 ounces

Wow, I think 7 ounces is great. That's about what I get using Breastea. So if you are pumping 7 ounces without any help I think that's wonderful. Without using Breastea, I only get between 1 -2 ounces when I pump. Do you pump that much every pumping?

It takes like 10 - 15 minutes when I pump both at the same time and if I do one at a time, it takes like 10 minutes.

Sometimes, but most of the time, it's around 4-5 oz.

I think that's still really great. It's a rare super-pumper who can get more than that with any consistency.

The consensus seems to be that your output is above average. So, the next question is why do you want or need to pump more.

Did you find the "sticky" I suggested you check out? As much as your output is great you may still be able to build on it with the Marmet/Massage Technique and/or using compressions while you pump.

I'm lucky if I get 3oz.

Wow, I didn't know. I was just reading on here about women that have been getting a lot more than that and I guess in the back of my mind, I'm afraid of my freezer supply not being enough. But thank you for the help and responses.

If you just want to increase your stash, I suggest pumping while feeding. Just manuver around until you can get both child and pump going at the same time, I did this once or twice a day before I had to go back to work and on the weekends if my stash gets low.

Good luck! And remember stress is a huge enemy of milk production!

okay, i'm one of those that could get a HUGE amount in one sitting.

of course, i wasn't nursing at the time. i used a medical-grade breast pump and pumped VERY early in the morning. over a period of weeks, i switched from pumping several times to mostly just in the morning.

i'd let my little one gnaw on me a bit after pumping...for extra stimulation. and i pumped in her presence, looking at her beautiful self. pumping both breasts at the same time helped, as well.

for me it was always supply/demand. I pumped exclusively. so when I stopped pumping overnight, it would often be 6-8 hrs built up in there, so in the morning I would get up to 18-20 oz total. when I pumped less overall (down from 8x per day to 6), I would get more like 12-15 in the morning, etc. (the rest of the day, I would get 5-6 oz total per session) it was all about how often the breasts were emptied. Fenugreek helped a bit when I pumped less and wanted more, but overall eating and drinking plenty and pumping a lot and for at least 20 minutes per session was the best way to get the most milk. and the fact that I used a hospital grade pump.
