My Revelation

Wow. I am FLOORED.

I really honestly only opened this forum because I'm Jewish and I wanted to know what the big fuss was about, but all these posts caught me, I started reading, and then started worrying.

So I started doing my own research. I was AMAZED at all the information out there on circumcision, and started worrying about my faith and its consequences for a son I may have someday.

Then, I found this website: http://www.jewishcircumcision.org/spectator

Finally, a Jewish perspective on circumcision! It comforts me to know that even Maimonides, one of our (if not THE) greatest scholars, even argued against it.

So I called my husband, cautiously telling him about what I was reading. He says "Yeah, I know. It's so dumb that they do it automatically. There's absolutely no reason for it."

I had no idea he thought that way.

Are there any Jews in here who have decided to not fulfill Brit Milah?

Thanks for your insight. You may have made another conquest in the battle against circumcision.

We aren't allowed to discuss religious circumcision in this forum Yes there are Jews here that have chosen to say no. Religious circumcision is supposed to be talked about in the Religious Studies forum, but you need to have been a member for 60 days and have 50 posts to get access to that forum. You might want to pm a moderator and see if you can have a Jewish parents that decided not to circ tribe?

Oh and congratulations!

We're not allowed to discuss religion in this particular forum, but I have heard good things about the website:

http://www.jewsagainstcircumcision.org/

It provides information on Brit Shalom, an alternative ceremony, as well as other information of interest.

GOOD for you! :)

If God intended for men to have foreskins, they would have been born with them.

EEK, wow. Sorry. I read the religious guidelines, but I guess I misinterpreted:

"Let us please take this board back to providing a safe place where parents of intact kids, or those interested in such, can share info, dispel misinformation, and talk about caring for intact boys."

and

"The main intent of this board is to provide information, support, and encouragement for people who are making the decision or who have decided to not circumcise. This is a place for discussion of the medical and personal issues of intactness that exist or are presumed to exist."

To mean that if you're looking to become anti-circ, you could mention that you were of a certain faith, to network. I realize that we aren't supposed to criticize or defend. I didn't realize the post had to be COMPLETELY secular. I guess I'll take it over to the Spirituality board once I'm a full member.

No offense meant. Total newbie here.

Nobody is offended! Someone reported MDC to I believe the ADL last year for being discriminatory to Jews for not supporting circumcision and MDC has been much more careful about what is said in this forum, unfortunately.

I think your OP is great, even if it does get shut down

Good for you and your husband! I can refer you to a wonderful Jewish woman who is on a mission to support Jews who are considering not circumcising. PM me, if you want her name.

Welcome, smeisnotapirate! So nice to have you here.

It is true that we can't discuss religious circumcision here. I'm going to lock this thread and not remove it, so that you still have access to the resources posted. I hope you find much support from others.
