Once late, always late???

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I knew the due date of my first bc we only DTD once that month (friends wedding, TOO much champagne...lol) and she arrived at 41.5wks after walking around for a month at 5cm, 90%, -1...no ctx though....bh's yes, but nothing painful...broke my water and I stayed the same for 8+ hours so got a bit of pit, which led to epidural, which led to pushing wrong, which led to dystocia......

This time we also know the date bc we were super busy that month (december) and only DTD that one time.... We weren't even supposed to be able to get pregnant without lots of outside help...MW thinks that my body was gearing up to finally do things on it's own and we caught everything at the right time..

As of now, 39wks (tomorrow) I am pretty much 5cm, 90%, -1 and my Bh's have stopped all together...

I just don't think I can manage being pregnant until mid-september (if things go the same way as they did 3.5y ago)....this pregnancy has been so rough (lost 30+lbs due to Hyperemesis, moved, still havent unpacked, my mom digs in everytime I mention an appt that a MW isn't a real medical person and that a doula is a waste of money, how she plans on taking dd when i am in labor etc....it's just been soooo stressful....black mold in the house (new house) that they can't seem to get rid of bc they can't figure out where the leak is......

I so want to avoid induction with pitocin........bc that means epidural for me and disappointment yet again in my birth and a why did i get a doula????

So, back to my original question...

once late, always late????

I am sure it's been asked before but I couldn't find the thread.......

I was 11 days late w/ my 1st and 6 days late with my 2nd. My 1st was augmented with Pit 24 hours after my water broke. My 2nd was less than 4 hours of active labor, start to finish, at home. Much better

I was 4 days late with my first and 2.5 weeks early with my second

I carried both of mine to exactly 39 weeks and 6 days.

I was late with my first, but had an elective induction when I was only about 4 days overdue. Not good. With my second I went into labor naturally ON my due date...

DD1- 41 weeks 6 days.
DD2- 37 weeks 1 day.

Both girls were identical in size- 7 lbs, 1 oz, 18" , same head measurement. I swear my body cooks them to exactly that size and then my timer goes off.

DD1- induced at 40w 2days

DD2- spontaneous labor 38 weeks!

HTH!

41.5 weeks with #1. Walked around at a 3, stretchy to a 5, for a couple of weeks.

40 weeks to the day with #2. Walked around at 7cms before going into labor.

Don't worry about it. Your baby will come out!

Best wishes for a peaceful birth! I'm sorry for your stress with your house and mom. Try and relax.

Oh, and 41.5 weeks isn't "late." It's perfectly within the range of time. Remember, due is from 37 - 42 weeks.

My mom knew the day of conception for each of us and carried myself and my two siblings exactly the same number of days. On her first appointment with my sister (her last)'s pregnancy, she told the doc the day she'd be in to have her baby. She didnt know that it was thanksgiving day...her doc noted it on her chart. Lo and behold, the night before thanksgiving she went into labor and I woke up face down on the neighbor's couch with the Thanksgiving Day Parade on the television about a foot from my face.

Now, with my kids, I knew when I conceived them, too. I figured, because of a TON of family history that I'd go at least two weeks late with them. I carried my first to 38.5 weeks (which for me almost felt premature because EVERYBODY else in my family has carried for a minimum of 42 weeks!). Then, my SON went at exactly 37 weeks. So, there's hope.

Although you could always just say no to the pit, the epidural, and all the rest. I suggest you stop looking at the calendar and try to enjoy the last few weeks of your pregnancy. Get your toes painted. Take some bubble baths. Have lots of sex. Go for quiet evening walks...and then have a GREAT birth!

My first was 10 days late and my second was 22 days early. My third was a scheduled c-section.

My first was about a week late; my second was about a week late; my third was born on his due date by 45 minutes . I thoroughly expected him to be late, so it was a pleasant surprise. I was also very sure of my conception dates all three times .

DD1 40.3 weeks
DD2 39 weeks

Of course I was SURE I would be really late with both since I was born at 44 weeks and my brother was induced at 43 weeks.... LOL

my babies:

40w0d (induced)
40w0d (SROM, then augmented because of no labor)
41w2d (spontaneous labor)
40w0d (SROM, then augmented because of no labor)

No, that's not a hard and fast rule. I have TWO different friends who went late with their first two babes and early with the third babe (and one had a fourth who was also before edd). That's just my limited knowledge.

Sounds like you have too many sources of stress though... I can't imagine trying to labor with so much stress.

I have seen babies stay inside b/c there was some reason to stay - like a nosy Grandmother staying for a few weeks. Sometimes there's a trend. I've never known someone to do a 37 week natural labor followed by a 42 week gestation, but I have known a few moms that had a premature birth followed by a term birth.
If we could predict when they'd come...life would be less stressful. With all the technology and interest in it - no one can. If there was a way, we'd be doing it, no?

However, since you're walking around at 5 cm, obviously your body is doing something right - I would trust it, even if it means 20 more days.

How about one of those "countdown to christmas" red and green construction paper chains. You can pull off a ring for every day you stay pregnant. And rip it to shreds, stomp on it, and throw it out the window, for a little stress release. Hmmm....maybe one of those chocolate advents is a better idea. How about you get a bag of Reece's Peanut Butter Cups and count out the number of days until 42 weeks and eat one a day. What ever's left over when the baby comes is a post-labor treat!
