Suite 101 - Page 61

Thanks Lisa. I am totally scouring google ads for high value cpc. I think I've got a decent SEO strategy going on ehow. I need to get my first article done for Suite, but also have a big load for DS due in a few days and a potential private client. I am BUSY!

Does anyone know if it's possible to re-join Suite101 if you didn't fulfill your original contract?

I started writing for them a little over a year ago, but didn't get through the minimum number of articles for the first few months because I got totally swamped at work. I'm back looking for extra things to do and would like to write for them again. Do you think there's any chance they'll take me back?

I've been trying to get back on with them (same thing happen for me with outside work getting heavy). They say to just email them with circumstances. I emalied once and heard nothing back and now when I try to email my email comes back as undeliverable. If you are able to get back on let us know!

Darn!
So I received an email last week that said I needed to sign my Suite contract and get started writing...this, of course, made me thoroughly excited. So, I hopped right on (re) signed the contract (knowing that it was a probable glitch, but taking advantage anyway) and started writing. I didn't have time to finish and submit anything though.

Turns out it was a glitch and my status was removed the next day. BUT, the good thing is that I now have the correct email addy to send my request for writing again. Whew! So, yeah anyway.

I've been slack about Suite writing for the past few weeks, so my challenge for this week is to write two articles a day. Anyone wanna join me for mutual nagging?

Incidentallym a mildly pleasing thing happened last month - I was sure I wouldn't beat the previous month's revenue because I didn't have any outstandingly good days, but by the end of the month I was a few dollars over. It isn't great growth, but it was encouraging because I hadn't written many (any?) new articles and it proved that my daily totals are slowly rising as a whole, even discounting the "tall poppy" days.

My sister joined Suite awhile back, and I think that finally pushed Mum to decide to give it a go. I've been telling her to do it for ages but she's scared and not very computer literate... but I guess she doesn't want to be beaten by two daughters! She swears she'll apply once her new computer's up and running... we will see.

I am in. But mine is to get two articles done this week, not each day.

Super! Well, then. Prod. It's Tuesday, have you gotten started?

Come to think of it, it must be Monday where you are. Never mind, then.

I did my two articles yesterday (I'm keeping tally on my blog), and have written 80% of one article so far today. It's 1:30PM... not too shabby, especially as DH is away this evening which should give me plenty of time to write.

Ok, I'm in as of tomorrow evening. My goal is to get 1 article done per night for the next two weeks. I just came off another Elance contract, so I am pretty exhausted tonight, plus I need to get stuff done for another project. But I'm in.

I'm thrilled that I may reach my goal by September. I want my income from Suite to cover dd's preschool fees. : : : :

Thread Starter
I just stepped down from my feature writer position at Suite. I'm so burned out on the parenting methods topic that I was not enjoying writing at all. I'm also sick of researching it!

I'm taking a writing course right now, so maybe when I've had a few months of that under my belt, I'll apply for a different feature position.

So how are we doing? I haven't managed two a day, but I've done five, nearly six this week with a seventh pending on someone answering interview questions.

Hi! I've posted in this thread but I'm not nearly as active as you other mamas. Recently I had an article that *would* have been selected for an editor's choice, except I didn't have a picture attached! I know it's great to be praised, but I feel a little let down, like I only won second place.

I also had two articles in a series flagged because I used part 1 and part 2 in the titles. I had no problem adjusting them, but there are SO many other articles on the site that violate this. So is this just because some editors are lazy and don't catch these things?

Now that my baby is 8 months old, and we're getting into a routine, I have more time for writing. I'm considering applying at about.com. I know some of you ladies had applied with them before, does anyone have any updates? I guess we could start a new about thread if enough people are interested in it.

Very possibly. She's right though, Part 1 and Part 2 in your title do you no favours. Nobody Googles those terms. Best use the precious space for keywords! I find it's best not to focus on what other editors allow, because it really does vary wildly - just keep to house style as best you can, and be grateful if you get a picky editor because they really do help your writing improve! Not that I love being flagged myself, of course.

I just got an email from the Home and Style editor asking the 15 or so writers who are interested in the Wedding Style section to submit mini-resumes. Apparently the section is now two sections - Wedding Style and Wedding Planning. I'm going for Wedding Style, and I really hope I get it! We could use the money. Plus, after about a year of waiting it'd be a tad anticlimactic if I didn't get it!

Wow! Glad I am the feature writer for a much less in demand section!
allibut, I can't stand flags, of course, though I'm getting better at not taking them personally. Sometimes I just want the article to be done, though, and I don't like it when it comes back to me. Ah, editing. Oddly enough, I survived years of editing for a few articles for other places...yes, years.

Oh, I have no problem with the flag. I was definitely in the wrong. I just looked to other articles instead of the suite101 guide for the part 1 and 2 thing. I was able to get some more keywords in.

ROFL! I just received a comment on my article on Homemade Wedding Gifts:

this is all nonsense!i don't like it!
Back in the days this would probably have reduced me to a quivering mess, but for some reason I now find it hilarious. It's the sad face... it looks so abject. My words made someone unhappy. That's a compliment of sorts.

Haha, I think someone has a wedding coming up and wants expensive gifts! Are you going to keep that comment up?
Naw. I was very tempted, though...

I got an email from the Home and Style FW saying I didn't get Wedding Style, but that Hair Care had just opened up and would I like the position? Then another email offering it to me again... to which I replied with great enthusiasm, discreetly overlooking the fact that she called me Catherine, which is not my name. I will be interested to see if I get a "Welcome to the team!" reply or an "Oops, wrong email address" one.

Did you hear back on Hair Care?

Nope, not yet...
