Can I ask how much each of you write and promote and about how much you earn, maybe a ball park amount? You can PM me if you aren't comfortable sharing that. I am trying to decide if it is worthwhile to start writing for Suite101 for me. I make about $50 in page views a month right now, plus I still get decent upfront payments when I submit something new. I'm not sure if I would make enough at Suite 101 to make it worthwhile.

Anyway, I have 27 articles up on Suite now. And, I'm working on becoming a feature writer, so when I get that promotion and get more articles up, I'm confident that I can build up to making a decent amount each month.
I also agree with everything Eviesmom said.
My writing has become so much tighter since I started writing for Suite. I know that it has improved my AC articles as well, resulting in more page views. I don't do anything to promote right now. There is no internal promotion strategy at Suite (i.e. at AC you read/comment on my article and I'll read/comment on yours). They don't push promoting the way AC does, but they do push strong SEO and they teach you specifically how to do it. They also strongly encourage lots of internal links within the body of each article.

I just began the application process at suite101 and after almost completing it decided it wasn't right for me.
It put me off that they expect me to write two pieces for FREE in the application. Then I realized I don't want to write about the same subject every single time, and I'd only want to be a Features Writer (is that the title?) so I'd have to. Not my style to stay with only one subject. For what it's worth, I've got a friend who makes a few hundred dollars a month with suite101 (hence my interest). --Heather |
It is my understanding that you don't have to write in the same subject all the time as a feature writer. You definitely don't as a regular writer. My writing is all over the place. I've got two computer/tech articles, several parenting, some frugal living and some holiday articles. As a feature writer, you have to make sure you meet your obligation to your feature (which is one article a week plus a blog entry, I think), but beyond that, you can venture into other categories.
I'm encouraged to read that your friend does so well at Suite! Thanks for sharing that with us.
