Suite 101 - Page 3

oh cool, I was just looking at my PV summary- I LIKE that they tell you what people typed in at google to find you. I didn't realize it would be that specific.

Good! I love using Google Analytics on my personal site to see what search terms brought people in. I wish AC would do that.

Thank you both for your support and for the feedback TCB. I didn't realize that not everyone was accepted by Suite so I will take that as a compliment instead of getting my feelings hurt by their critique. I swear when I have PMS I'm either grouchy or sensitive and this is one of those sensitive times hehe. I'll definitely take the cookie!!

Glad you are feeling better.

I'm glad you are feeling better, too MytwoA's. Suite wants you to succeed. That is why they critque the way they do. I prefer that style to AC's style of not telling you anything while they slowly (or quickly) decrease your offers and start declining articles without much explanation.

I love knowing how people found my articles on Suite. You can tell if people link to your article in their blog too, which is really cool. I've got one now that someone has linked to. It only gets me a hit or two a day, but it feels like a compliment. I'm easily flattered - LOL.

ETA - This might make you feel even better. It's not just you that gets critques like that. My review after my first 10 aticles was THREE pages long when I printed it. I read it through, then I had to set it aside for a day or two because I felt a little deflated. Three pages worth of constructive criticism is kind of hard to take. But, when I picked it up again, I really took note of what they said and have been trying very hard to put it all into practice. For each point they made, they took specific examples out of my articles so I fully understood what they meant. That was really helpful for me. I didn't truly understand keywords until then.

I'm going to try to write tonight. I've been unmotivated lately.

This really is exciting me. While AC has some nice features, I didn't feel it was necessarily making me a better writer. The FAQ and forums help if I seek it out, but it isn't personal. It's not looking and what I am doing and what I am not doing to help me improve.

Right now, I want to be educated, taught, made into a stronger web-writer. Suite provides the tools to do that without feeling like I am clambering in the dark.

Jenny - I just checked out your new article. I really like it and I'm not just saying that to be nice. I like the format, I like the topic and I like how you addressed both the accurate indicators and the misconceptions. It's funny, because in the feedback I gave you in the yahoo group, I said you should write an article on that topic since you had so much info in that article about it. It looks like you were a step ahead of me - lol!

Too funny!

I'll check your new submission out later today.

And thank you for your candor. Please feel free to keep it coming. I really want to refine my writing and sometime it's best to throw it in the fire, KWIM? Hit me with whatever you got.

Can both of you please PM me your Suite 101 links? I'd love to read your work.

I resubmitted my article this morning with the changes you suggested TCB plus I made the other changes that they requested. I am fully aware that there may be a few more rounds of editing before I get it right and I'm OK with that now, LOL.

Woohoo, they published it. Thanks again TCB for your feedback. I just noticed that the page title (URL) did not change to the title of the document. Evidently when it was originally submitted that page title got hardcoded even though it was changed in the edit. O'well.

Me again, with a question. When I go to Suite's main page my story is one of three at the bottom. Does that just rotate with the three most recent stories or once I get three stories will those spots be 3 of mine (so it recognizes that I'm visiting the site and it's showing those).

Congratulations! I'm glad I could help. I just looked at your article - it looks great. That's good that you included a picture. They have been pushing that lately.

I never noticed that about title changes. I went back and checked my cold sore article, which had a title change some time ago, and the url is still the old title. I think you are right that it must get hardcoded in.

Yay! Congrats! You did an awesome job on the article.

TCB - I really appreciated your MLK article. Great ideas. My dh went to Boston University. MLK pastored there. I always got goosebumps when I walked by the building that held his office.

That is yet another thing that I never noticed about Suite.

I guess I'm not very observant! But, I never go to the main page. I have my own page bookmarked and from there I always go to "today's articles".

I would think that it would rotate, depending on what the newest articles are. But, that's just a theory. We'll have to watch it and see what happens.

Thanks! I think MLK day is such an important holiday. My oldest son is really just now old enough to have a meaningful discussion about it this year. I can't wait to see how much they cover in school.

Suite's e-mail from the editor inspired me today. She said now is the time to push the holiday articles and she mentioned the writer who earned almost $1,000 in a month. So, I cranked out another holiday article, even though I thought I was done with that topic - lol. My holiday articles have been doing really well, so why not?

MyTwoAs - The newest articles do go on the homepage. I checked as soon as I posted my new article and it was there.

Jenny - Do you have enough articles up yet to notice a difference between Suite and AC for page views? I've been noticing that for a few months now. Suite must have a better google placement because my page views there do so much better than AC, even for similar articles. It has been really noticable with the holiday articles.

Even though I haven't been publishing long, I have noticed that I get more hits and Suite. That surprised me since I haven't done any networking among the writers at Suite. Almost all traffic is coming through search engines and from onlywire.

I must say I love the feedback from the editors. So far they've only commented on two of my articles, but the information they provided was definitely light bulb moments.

I also was excited about the letter from the editor and the person who earned $1000. I can't say that I am going to write much holiday stuff at this point though, I feel like I am still in the learning mode. Once I get better at web writing, I think I will pay more attention to seasonal writing.
