Supply help desperately needed

Hi there,

I'll try to make this short- Last week I came down with a really bad case of masititis that was resistant to a bunch of drugs they threw at me and when it spread to my chest and underarm I ended up in the hospital for 2 nights on IV meds. While there I did have my baby with me during the day and an electric pump for the evenings, but for some reason (stress? the antibiotics?) my supply had dropped very suddenly, and very seriously.

Aside from the obvious very empty small boobs, my son is now nursing *all night long* and for the last 2 nights has woken up with a dry diaper. I tried pumping last night and after over an hour of pumping I barely had an ounce (I can usually get 7-8 ounces in about 15 minutes).

I'm currently taking Fenugreek and More Milk drops, drinking "Nursing Mom's tea" and eating all the oatmeal I can handle... But still nothing... I'm really starting to wonder if it's the antibiotic I'm currently on... I feel like nothing is working...

My son is 11 months old and eating some solids, but not very much and I'm REALLY starting to worry.

Any advice, thoughts, anything?

What antibiotic is it? I am imaginging it's "just" stress, and you supply will improve again soon. At 11 months, I think he will weather this temporary bump in the road just fine until your supply recovers.

Can you take a nursing vacation, a couple of days with just the two of you together? and take care of yourself.

I think MaryJaneLouise is correct. Normally I'd give you a whole bunch of info on different galactagogues but you're already trying the two most obvious ones and I think more than anything you just need rest, a nursing vacation would accomplish that.

If I would suggest anything else it would be the obvious: stay well hydrated, eat plenty of protein, make sure you are getting enough healthy fats and carbs. If your appetite has suffered at all or if you simply lack the energy to prepare anything your diet may be suffering, notwithstanding the oatmeal.

Good luck and keep us posted.

NAK

I've been through alot of BFing problems and after trying Fenugreek, blessed thistle and pumping as well as BFing, I finally got a perscription for Reglan. I've been on it for 5 days and I'm making tons more milk.

I would talk to your DR about it to see if it's right for you.

GL!
