Help! Any natural remedies for a UTI???

OK, DH and I were fooling around last night, and this afternoon I can't get off the toilet, pretty much literally. No pain going to the toilet, no blood, anything like that. I'm hoping this is just bruising, but does anyone have any bright ideas what I can do to ward off a full blown infection?

So far, I've taken a tab of arnica (to help if it is bruising.) got some unsweetened cranberry juice and fresh blueberries, and started drinking as much water as possible. I've also taken some zinc. Tonight's Sunday, so the chemist is closed, and tomorrow is a bank holiday so I'm going to have a hard time getting any unusual remedies. I really want to avoid antibiotics if possible, and my Susun Weed and my homoeopathic book are both out on loan to someone who's away on holiday.

Help? Please?

i looked up frequent urination, and my homeopathy book recommends Lilium 6c for intense urging, dragging pains in lower abdomen. don't know if that fits the bill or not... want me to look up something else for you?

susan weed says to use 500 mg vit c every hour (can cause loose stools) to "wash" out bacteria.

she also recommends one oz of uva ursi leaves in one quart boiling h20. drink only one cup every 12 hours the first 2 days, one cup per day for 3 days after even if symptoms disappear. do not use uva ursi for more than 10 days.

i used to get chronic uri's which would turn into kidney infections so i feel you mama!

what helped me the most was cranberry pills (cranactin is a great brand), taking 6 at the onset and 4 every hour woth *lots* of h20 and pure cranberry juice. stay away from spinach, dairy, meat and anything that is hard for the body to process as much as you can. brown rice, eggs, most veggies and fruit are helpful and nourishing things to eat.

Garlic works great for bacterial infections and inflammation. I had a UTI recently and got over it by eating tons of garlic (wild bear garlic if possible, but reg. will be good), 100% cranberry juice, probiotics, and tons of water. I got desperate at one point and went to the ER for antibiotics because the pain can get so bad even when its not that bad of an infection. I took one capsule of amoxicillian and have never thrown up so violently in my life. My body was totally rejecting that.
I saw my naturopath the next day and got a remedy which is called Multi-Pollen (basically different types of pollen- it really seems to tonify the kidneys and bladder) but of course different people will test for different remedies.

oh yes! i totally forgot about garlic and probiotics!:

they are like magic. i didn't know about the bee pollen thing though, that sounds amazing. i know that people with allergies take local bee pollen to counteract their allergies and it works wonders.

Fantastic, thanks. I'll get the vitamin C down my throat (we must have some in the house somewhere) and go and get some cranberry pills tomorrow. I don't think I'm going to be able to get uva ursi before Wednesday at the earliest, unless I can talk DH into a trip to Bath tomorrow.
And eat garlic Which is one way of preventing a recurrence...
Elyse, could you have a look in your homoeopathy book and see if there's any recommendations for sepia for UTI's? I have a very heavy feeling in my groin like I get with PMT sometimes, and I was wondering...

Thanks, ladies!

Not in your DDC,

But lots of Vit. C, cut out ALL sugar, and drink as much cranberry juice as you can handle. If you get a fever or it gets worse, please call your midwife/doctor. That can be very serious during pregnancy.

Get thee to the HFS and buy Cranactin by Solaray. I had major UTI problems while pg with DD, had preterm labor because of it, and had a recurring problem and could not take antibiotics for the strain I had (I was allergic to it). At any rate, each time I got a UTI, Cranactic knocked it out at least as fast as antibiotics!! You're much more prone to UTI's while pg bc everything relaxes, including your urethra.

OK, I think we got to it in time The heavy vulval feeling is gone, and I didn't get woken up last night, so I'm going to keep the cranberries going today and start cutting down the vitamin C intake tomorrow.
Thanks so much! :
