My opinion is a total yes yes yes! My 12yo daughter has had problems with handwriting her whole life. she writes similar to your son. it is impossible to learn cursive when you write this way which has caused her a great deal of stress and tears because she wants to learn cursive. she also cannot read cursive.

it takes her forever to write something, so she doesn't want to write, do homework, even write poems or letters to friends. she can't even write out a grocery list without it taking forever andmaking her frustrated.

last year, we had her tested and found out some of her handwriting problems are due to "dysgraphia" which is a learning disability related to reading and writing. she is getting occupational therapy and relearning how to write, doing hand exercises, it is making a world of difference.

that's just my opinion, but i wish I would have known the long term problems (well, not too long term, she's only 12) and I wish I would have been more consistent to correct the problem when she was younger, it is MUCH harder now that she is older!
