I noticed many of yours are in Sept/Oct. I am wondering if there's a particular timeframe I should plan for. I understand doing it really early with twins, but what about singletons?

For me, I find it hard to do showers early b/c so many people want to buy clothes and all that, and unless you know what sex you are having, you will get a TON of green and yellow stuff (which isn't really that bad, and in the grand scheme of things doesn't matter, but...).
With DD, we had her shower when she was 3 weeks old. It was nice b/c everyone could meet her too, though we did get a TON of pink clothes
: .
This time, I am not having a shower but I will have a Mother Blessing. We have pretty much everything we need (except a Moby Wrap, but I can get that easily enough) so it will be nice to focus on the spiritual aspect of labor, birth, and bringing a new soul to this world. I will probably have it early/mid October.

It seems like a month or two prior is the norm. I would want one early enough that I could inventory everything I got so I could purchase anything else I was in dire need of before the birth (like a carseat or something). We threw my aunt a shower that we had planned for 2 weeks prior and she had the baby 2 weeks prior to that and she brought him with her!
I want stuff RIGHT NOW so I can stop the urge to go out and spend money buying stuff.
: I keep seeing things and thinking "I need to have that for the baby!" so I buy it. teehee!

If I do have a shower, when should it be?
Daily, or else your family will start to complain.
We're 2+ hours away from DH's family and 6+ from mine, so if we were doing a shower, it would have to be really early (like this month). For our wedding, we had separate ones with each family which really takes out 2 weekends and I honestly don't feel up to traveling that much.
We're just going to throw an open house in December as a sort of "meet the baby" party instead. It will be tougher to get ready for, but I'm hoping it will cut down on all the "when are you bringing the baby over for a visit" phone calls. Here - meet the kid, now leave us alone until spring!
I did register for a few big things and my problem is without a shower date as a cutoff, I have no idea when we should start buying things to complete the registry.

my local cloth diaper parenting group does one for all of us preggo ladies. We go out to dinner and you can bring gifts if you choose. It is a celebration mainly.
we usually do it the month ahead of time. so the first friday in october will be mine!
I am totally excited because I haven't really had a baby shower with friends out of all of my kids!

I've decided to do a "meet and greet" after the baby is born, but I'm not sure when that will be exactly. I came to this conclusion because we won't be finding out the sex and I thought it would allow for a little bit of pink or blue to creep into the GN wardrobe that way
There's not much I really "need" so if we don't end up doing it, I really don't mind too awful much.

I am leery about the baby shower or meet n greet after the pregnancy with hubby's family because it will be a room full of people whom smell like freshly smoked cigarettes and people whom will make remarks about how the babe was born too close to Christmas (and they may just skip bringing a shower gift). I don't know as I feel good about passing the baby around to all of that, you know?
Friends are one thing, but his family is another!
I want to do it that way just to get it over in one swoop on one day but then again, it will be unpleasant for myself and the baby, you know?
I'm torn. I could use some things from a shower, but what's more important is family. Yet his family is not all that pleasant to have around, especially if it's costing them money of some kind. I can usually handle it and look forward to it even! But apparently not when I am pregnant.
I just need some basics from a shower (no one attending will buy anything over $15 anyway or try to coordinate for a bigger gift) like onesies and t-shirts, blankets, socks, etc.. And they will all probably make some jibes about cloth diapers and not having a crib and....
Perhaps I should just keep trying to get it all myself and not worry about a shower.

Evan was due Dec 11th and my shower was the last week in Oct.. I think Jay's shower was early Sept (might have even been labor day wknd??) he was due Nov 17th
I have forbidden a shower this time! Evan's was nice but really more for my MIL (her 1st grand) than really for me... I don't like being the total focus and all that.. it was nice tho, we did an open house style with people stopping by and mingling in and out with no set "schedule" it was buffet and very relaxed.. I opened gifts as people brought them since they came in at all diff times..
I think around two mos B4 DD is "normal" ??
